Be careful....
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 6:50 PMA good friend of mine was raped this weekend. She left her wallet in the store when she was locking up for the night and ran back in to get it. A guy who worked near by saw it and followed her in. She is one of the strongest women I know and I would never have guessed she would fall victim to something like this. It could happen to anyone.
1 in 4 women is sexually assaulted during their lifetime. Don't become a statistic.

talking from experience....... I completely agree..
tips I learned as a girl living alone in NYC: Always walk more towards the building than the curb........ it's safer and easier to check the reflection in windows for anyone following behind you It's a good habit to walk to your car - especially at night - with your largest key held so it sticks out between your first and second fingers.. good jabbing point if you need it.... I rarely tell strangers my real name - especially if they are asking odd personal questions and gettign in my space.. - ladies - you know the feelin' avoid ponytails at night.... especially if you're alone.. it's a grab target for attackers..... and always..........always.. trust your instincts.................. |

I ma so sorry to hear that your friend was raped. Actually, I am incensed. I am not a violent person, but if I found someone who had committed rape, I would make sure they were incapable of doing it again. PLEASE be aware of your surroundings, ladies. I spent part of my younger years in a rough neighborhood and as big as I am, I was also the token whitebread music geek on my street. I learned a lot about watching my back and knowing my surroundings.

God, how terrible. I hope she's okay. Kimi, your friend is in my thoughts. How devastating.
Liisa: Good advice about the ponytail at night. I'd never thought of that. |

Wow. As Collie said, your friend is in my thoughts. I can't imagine.
And, thank you for the advice, Miss Liisa. |
