about me
I believe in personal freedom (even when I don't approve) and personal responsibility, (even when it's not fair).
I believe in the pursuit of happiness. That is to say, the actual doing something to make your own happiness happen, even when - no, especially when it's hard. I believe doing the things that make you happy in life is better for everyone in the long run - even the people who aren't too happy about it in the short term.
"...it's a lot harder to create your own path than to follow one that's been laid out for you... You could have told me that going in! You know, when someone says, 'Follow your bliss' it sounds like it's gonna be a lot of fun!" -- Dharma & Greg
I'm a big fan of doing things in general. I realized a long time ago that when I think, "Why doesn't someone do something about that?" that maybe that someone should be me. Doing things is a lot more interesting than not doing things; if nothing else you learn a lot, and if things go well then you have something cool to show for it at the end.
I'm highly critical, but not in a mean spirited way. I am critical because I want things to rock, and they only will if we are able to identify the things that suck. I really don't like it when things suck.
I really *do* love it when things rock though. Things like Burningman, which in case you didn't know, rocks pretty seriously. I love hippies, goths, geeks, burners, and weirdos and could probably be considered a little of each. I also have a soft spot in my heart for pagans, surfers, punks, scientists and stoners although none of those labels fit me.
Other relevant bits of information: I'm agnostic, bisexual, polyamorous, Libertarian, in love with this guy: people.tribe.net/hirodusk , nocturnal, pragmatic, fiercely independent, sensitive, emotional and INTJ.
Our theme camp, Luna Sanctum, will be at 9:00 and Boreal this year. We are not inside of the plaza this year, rather right next to it on Boreal. (See map.) The project is going to be the same one we did last year, so if you saw us last year you should be able to spot us pretty easily. If you didn't, well, that's what pictures are for!

About a year ago I started to notice it. With delight and surprise the first time it happened, then with a growing realization that this was not just a fluke. It wasn't just random luck that while in a public place I didn't have to hurry my business so as to escape the traumatic sounds coming from the speakers -- in fact, it was actually a song I liked. A song I knew. A song that filled me with the warm fuzzy feelings of familiarity, where quality or artistic value are irrelevant.
Slowly i...

A friend of mine found this adorable homeless kitten near her house. I'm told she is quite affectionate. (The kitten, that is.) If you were thinking about adopting one and you are local, you might consider giving this one a good home.
Adopting black and white kittens from off the street comes with my personal recommendation. ;-)
(Also, if you have any suggestions for what my friend can do for this cat aside from taking her in, let me know.)

I've decided to put some effort into disentangling my online persona from my personal information a bit. A semi-related side effect is that I am changing my tribe name to be the same one I've used in other online communities for years: ethernight. So, if you're confused about who this new name is on your friends list -- it's me, Alissa.
I realize this might seem kind of odd announcing a name change like it's a big deal, considering that some of you change your tribe name more frequently ...

Alissa is amazing. She is fiercely herself: goth, Burner, computer programmer, raver, organizer, poly-bi goddess, and sometimes-goofy friend all in one. She's extremely intelligent and does not suffer fools gladly, but she's also extremely generous, tolerant, and compassionate.
She also singlehandedly started Bisect, which has brought dozens of bi and bi-friendly women together in a fun and safe way. I can't tell you what a difference that one organization has made in my life, and I know that I am far from the only one.
If Alissa calls you friend, feel lucky. I know I do.

Alissa is one of the sexiest women I have ever met in my whole entire life. On top of that she's brilliant as well. She creates wondrous things. Not exactly a light in the darkness, more like a deeper black.

I really, really adore and appreciate Alissa for everything that she thinks, says, and does... and then there's the hotness factor.

Alissa can mix up "your" and "you're" and still come off as intelligent. She is just that awesome.
