Songs of the Sound

Hey ~ I talked to my renter's insurance (USAA) company in the wee hours of Saturday morning. They will cover the food that has spoiled in my fridge cause of the power outage. If you haven't thought of this already, talk to your insurance company.

I've seen this played on a bathroom mirror with fun results (I'm modifying it slightly). We're going to write a story. We get five words per turn. I'll start:

A beautiful $2.50 light cover (another thrift store score), three copper wires, a pine board to cover odd holes, a little Fimo clay, and a rennovated light fixture created this at Coppermoon today. I love it when a plan comes together!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were ... read more

There is a small light shining in the wasteland known as Bellevue, WA. In the midst of gleaming corporate monoliths and cookie-cutter Starbucks is a small indie coffee shop, the Belvi Coffee Exchange, at 900 108th Ave NE (across the street to the south from the Library on the west corner). GOOD coffee, a nice tea selection, a small panini menu and 10% of their profits go to wildlife and animal organizations.

Check it out!

Cyber Dog Cafe
( local favorites » bars / clubs / cafes ) "The Heart of the Heart of Seattle" IMHO, is the Cyber Dog Cafe - 9th and Pike - tucked into the bottom the the Convention Center of all things. Really local, really indie, good coffe and tea, vegan hot dog cuisine, Internet access and run by Tatiana. Gotta kill some time downtown?... read more

Starbucks
( local favorites » restaurants ) "So I'd Like To Know" I've heard that Starbuck's owns one of or both of Tully's and Seattle's Best. Does anyone know the answer?

And ~ Let's start identifying the local independent coffee shops that deserve our support. A couple off the top of my head: CyberDog Cafe... read more

The Real Game of Life
( miscellaneous » other ) "The Real Game of Life" If you haven't seen it ( gameofreallife.com/ ) it's the modern version of the original board game. First saw it at the U Street Fair. Stood there for a long time just reading the board. Have played it since (tried cocaine, three rolls later was de... read more

Movie:
( local favorites » other ) "Better Than Chocolate" Just a sweet and amazing movie on several levels. During the last watching I commented that this is one movie about GBLT people in which the "tradational" morals do not win out. Then I realized, at the end of the movie, that the most traditional ... read more
