A brutal Pre-Code wonder directed by William Wellman about impoverished teens who ride the rails looking for jobs. Starts all tame and cutesy then slides quickly into the despair of the Great Depression. New Deal propaganda that isn't ruined by the sappy ending.

The best black and white photography I've seen in a long time. The rest of the film is very well done indeed. Fans of Joy Division (like me) will be pleased.
