Amira

For those of you that knew and loved Amira (aka Victoria Bedford) she passed away Tuesday night of brain cancer.
For those of you that didn't know her, she was a sweet and loving person that always shared what little she had.
She camped with us at Orluk Oasis for many years, but I met her in Charlotte in the early 90's. She was dancing at a restaurant there and we hit it right off. She was right there in the middle of the first wave of belly dance in America and knew so much. I was a fledgling dancer doing my own thing with drum circles in the woods. She taught me more about professional dancing and I introduced her to the pennsic style dance party. "When do I get to dance", she asked? and I laughed and told her "now!"
Love you Amira.

She will be missed
I always enjoyed being with Amira & talking with her, she had so many unique ideas and insights into life and people. And she was a beautiful dancer too, who had such a lot of knowledge and experience and was always ready to pass it on to anyone who asked. She was truly an original.

I didn't get to know Amira for long, but the brief time I knew her, she made an impact! Her perserverance through hard times, determination and dedication were truly inspirational. She was quick with a smile and a helpful tip, and watching her dance was was a gift to be treasured. I'm truly thankful we got to meet her at SheVaCon year before last, and even moreso that we got to learn from her and share her space. Seeing her get up and dance, knowing that she was fighting such a battle, spoke volumes that can't be conveyed in mere words. She will be missed heartily!

We only new Amira for one year-- our first Pennsic. She was a very unique and special lady, and made us feel welcome right away. I'm sad to hear of her passing, and wish we could have had more time to spend with her. I know she'll be missed by so many!

This truly saddens my heart. She was one of the people who first welcomed me into the Orluk family and an early inspriation.

I remember the year this picture was taken. And crashing at Amira's house on the way to, or home from, an event up in the mountains. You go for so many years without really thinking about someone and then you hear that they're gone. Tell the people you love how you feel about them NOW, because the truth of life is, there are only so many tomorrows left to us. I'll miss you Amira.

I didn't know her well but really liked her, I always thought she was very nice, and classy. I loved that she loved to dance to Nubar, because I loved to play it.
