OK, I'm tentatively announcing my final Spring workshop, boding anymore scheduling difficulties (i.e. suddenly discovering that a large name performer would come to campus the same date and time I originally planned the Spring '09 event), with Arianna Al Tiye (www.ariannaaltiye.com). 1) Willow was kickass. Seriously, she was a great instructor, totally well-prepared, and brought a warmth to the classroom which I greatly appreciate in dance instructors. 2) Kassar is awesome. Well, after deciding to take a year-long break from bellydance, I’ve finally returned. Why such a break? Well, I have a dissertation to write and this is my final year in the program. I realized I had two options: Continue to bellydance (despite the fractured foot, leg surgery and car accident) or stop bellydancing and start focusing on graduating. OK, Guilty Pleasure Time. When the PCD birthed themselves into the post-Britney pop culture era, my initial thoughts were one of repugnance, particularly after seeing/hearing their Don't'Cha video/song. Although I struggled to dislike it, my abashed enjoyment didn't prevent my unabashed horror at its blatant hyper-sexualization and overdone self-commodification (and, yes, I'm making up words :). OK, I love lingerie. But, I am poor. I used to love Victoria's Secrets, but they ceased to be innovative and fun (altho' I like the new Intimissimi line :) However, I've discovered a new lingerie site that's totally fun and kitschy: Trashy.com. Although they claim they're trashy (their models are :), the lingerie and bras aren't.
