I know it may sound like a ludicris premise but hear me out please. You see just 30 years ago soccer was rarely played in the USA. Baseball was still very popular and Football was growing in popularity. Both games have their virtues and life lessons. George Carlin did an hour long monologue about the differences of the two games. Both are American inventions. As is Basketball which as a Hoosier I can not write a blig concerning sports without mentioning. You see ALL these games do not end until someone WINS. There is no more quintessentional American Ideal than WINNING. Winning is part of being the best. It's about working hard and realizing a reward for that hard work, dedication and perseverance. Some decades ago Soccer was introduced into America. It was hailed as a game for the masses. All you need to play is a ball and an open space. Also it was opined that as the game was played in almost every other country that Americans could better understand "others" by embracing this the single most popular game in the World. There is a problem however. Soccer is a game that can end in a scoreless tie. It is rigidly timed and highly orchestrated by officials. Kudos are given for skill and hard work and goals are enthusastically cheered; but neither fans nor players get upset if the game ends in a tie. They love to win, hate to lose but feel benign about a scoreless tie. They get philosophic and analytical. Soccer fans go bananas regardless if their team wins or loses and are destructive either way. Hooliganism as it is called hasn't caught on yet here in America. However here the Soccer leagues overseen by parent groups have encouraged the scoreless tie as they don't want their children to feel the "humiliation" of losing. So games are not scored. So kids are prevented from losing and feeling that bad emotion. They also can not feel the joy of winning. Which is one of the best "highs" a person can feel naturally. This is at the heart of why kids are being "dumbed down" and why they don't see that their actions have consequences. The same people that brought soccer to America promote the the same philosophy of sparing children the humiliation of loss also promote school without grades, outcome based education, moral equivelency, situational ethics and Liberal politics along with secular humanism. Everything that is wrong with America in a nutshell. This whole soccer debaucle is almost enoiugh to get me to believe in conspiracy theories. The only thing good about Soccer is it produces some great kickers for the NFL.
