Ben iyiyum, teşekkürler.

Three more days in England and then back to the good ole US of A! The fact that you miss your home country after being away for so long isn't surprising, but it's strange the things that you miss... 24-hour grocery stores, cheap gasoline and that unique american informality come to mind. It wasn't really too long ago that I was in the US, only a few months, but it's been more than I year since I was back and knowing that I was going to stay. I might be making the occasional flight back to ... read more

Hey folks. This blog entry has been a long time coming, as you may have noticed if you follow my writings. Why no recent blog postings? Too busy, too lazy, maybe too much time away from a decent internet connection... probably all of the above. Anyways, here's a brief summary of life for the past month or so.
I left Istanbul in mid-December to head for the quiet town of Chester in western England. My mom was waiting for me at Luton airport in London to pick me up and we made the long d... read more

Well, it's about three weeks until I head for England and life's getting a bit roller-coaster-ish. I had this really nice day the other day. The studio seemed to be coming along well, my concerns about life in general seemed to be working out alright, and the guys surprised me (indeed I think surprise is their primary mode of communication) by telling me that they sold the store after getting an offer from this mafia guy who owns our building to rent a much larger, better located storefront... read more

So the plot thickens.... The studio is near completion. Hopefully in a few days we'll get it stocked with equipment and I'm hoping that it's up and running in a week and a half or so. In an interesting twist of events, Emin Percussion has me on it's watchlist now. Let me explain.

Some of you guys might be familiar with Emin Percussion. It's one of the few stores in Istanbul that is exclusively a percussion retail outlet, and it has basicaly cornered the market on some of the higher end pe... read more

Well, today merits a blog entry. Had a nice day. A refreshing day. Yes... a nice refreshing day. I got up late today and basically made my way out of the studio, got some caffeine and headed to Kadıköy. Now, I've been in Istanbul for almost a year now and I still didn't make it out there until today. It's one of the more well-known areas in the Asian side of the city. There are a lot of nice restaraunts, clubs, and tea houses down there and it's got a real pleasant atmoshpere. And sin... read more

Nick's kinda funny.
He likes drums a bunch.
He won't admit it, but he used to play guitar and be a singer/songwriter. And he wasn't half bad, either!
He is a great person to know and be friends with.
He likes to make fun of you when you're being stupid,
but what else are friends for?
Oh yes, for telling you to never stop dancing...
One day, Nick: we have a beautiful duet in the distant present, preparing for a distant future??

Miss you, Mister!! See you soon,
emay

ps - did you know Nick used to have a purple lobster?

Nick is a great drummer. He is my ally in the creation of a Middle Eastern music scene in Pittsburgh. Without Nick, there would be no Jalsah.

Bonus: Nick really likes Anatolian rock of the 70's and Arab rock music. He appreciates the fusion of rock sounds with folk songs. It is nice to know I am not alone!

Pittsburgh and I will miss you Nick!
