I am not one for small talk, so getting to know new people can be difficult for me. This has gotten more profound as I have gotten older. I tend to be outgoing & professional in work type settings, and a recluse in my private life.
Gothism~
I have been drawn to the macabre & dark for the majority of my life. While definining one's gothickness is difficult and riddled with semantic faux paux, I think that I have been gothic since I was a sophomore in high skool.
I am a dancer!
My mother would dance with me as an infant to Seals & Croft (my earliest memory). At age 4 I enrolled in ballet. From then, I pursued any form of dance I could learn. Professionally, I was a member of the Cache Valley Civic Ballet, and the USU Sunburst Dancers. In high school I was a member of the Logan High Hi Los for two years, and my senior year I was a cheer leader. At age 20 I took a dance hiatus roughly after an 8 hour tryout for the Utah Jazz Dancers, only to be dismissed at the final cut. Although I never stopped dancing in clubs, and at my home. I did not start lessons again until I discovered belly dancing with Kismet. I took Yasamina's beginning Baby belly class, then took lessons from a very pregnant Kimaya. For 4 years, I was a member of the Veiled Visions Troupe under the beautiful Alexandria's tutelage. I pursued an undergraduate education in lieu of belly dancing, but took a Latin Dance class here, a flamenco class there, hip hop, break dancing, Odissi, and fell in love with Kundalini Yoga. In 2002, I went back to Kismet and have been dancing since.
At an early age, I cannot remember when, my grandmother told me that dancers are a dime a dozen. It is partly true, there are many dancers out there, people love to dance, and that is a wonderful wonderful thing, but not everyone is a great dancer. Instead of being a Solid Gold dancer, or a Fly Girl, I am pursuing a balanced life.
