I used to think of Costello as Rafiki, from Lion King. The wild monkey, seasoned by years of thriving on his special brand of delightful madness that could only come from the holiest of fools.
Lately though, I've been learning about Hanuman.. do you know about Hanuman? He's a Hindu deity, a monkey-god, who was sent to search for the goddess Sita. The story goes, she was being held captive on an island by Ravana, a man who was at odds with her husband Rama. Rama sends Hanuman to go and find her, to enlist his helpful monkey energy in bringing Sita back. Hanuman responds by jumping across the whole ocean to the island. Once he finds her, he burns down the city and calls in an army of monkeys to fight Ravana, and Rama comes and Sita is saved.
Now I don't identify as Hindu, but I've been coming to think of myths and legends as stories that we used to use to figure ourselves out before we ever came up with Zoloft and Restless Leg Syndrome, etc. The significance of this story is a recognition that the goal of all spiritual yearning is union of the individual soul with the universal soul. Sita is said to represent the individual, which has been held captive by Ravana, who represents the ego. She's been separated from the universal, who is symbolized by Rama. Hanuman here is said to personify an active, participatory annihilation of the ego, and thereby re-unites the individual with the collective.
On more than one occasion in the past few years, I've felt isolated on the island of myself, held captive by my static ego and self-judgments, only to be found and called to join the community by Costello. When I've felt that lonely and separated from it all, he's the guy that has invited me out of my head to play and laugh and BE with everyone, and burnt down the city of my stagnant prison by handing me a beanie baby or proudly showing off his thong or something else totally bizarre and completely adorable. He doesn't do any actual saving-- that's what happens when I'm back in touch with the tribe. What he brings is a sense of connection to what feels like just about everyone in the world, with a buttload of monkeys in tow. So as far as I'm concerned, Costello is Hanuman :D

MY HUG HERO!

Costello gets me. He pays attention to the small details that are very important to me. He loves me as I am, never wanting to hold me back, encouraging my growth. He is extremely supportive, incredibly silly, and absolutely beautiful! I am so lucky to have such an amazing partner, sensual lover, and honest friend. I love you so much!!!!!

Cos is a fascinating friend.... his imagination, originality and genuine good nature are incredibly endearing. Who knows where he will end up in life, but one thing is for sure... his journey is going to be a lot of fun!

I like you Costello. And hanging out with you, I imagine, is much like hanging out with Bert and Ernie rolled up in one.

Hello. I am an adult, and I love stuffed animals. They're comforting when I need a hug, they're fun to watch movies with, and they smile to me during my day. :o)
I want to spread this joy to other adults. I want to show people that they don't have to stop enjoying stuffed animals just because they "grew up."
Look at your Beanie Babies. They have hard cardboard tags through their ears. If you removed those tags, you'd suddenly be free to appreciate them for what they ARE, which is cuddly and lovable! You don't want to remove the tags because then they wouldn't be "worth" anything. But by "anything" you mean worth MONEY. But they're NOT worth money. (some rare ones are. Keep them. Sell them.) But they are worth something that's much more valuable than money. They're lovable and sweet and cuddly and FUN.
I suggest to you, two courses of action.
1. Remove all your hang tags. Declare your Beanies FREE AND LOVABLE! Get them DIRTY even! Take them to tea parties. Bring them with you to work. Give them out and have a Beanie pal in everyone's cubicle. Pile them in your friends' bed when they're sick. Enjoy them! Wouldn't you rather have enjoyment and pleasure than a few dollars?
or
2. Donate your Beanies to the Beanie Baby Adoption Agency. We will remove their hang tags and even those irritating saftey labels. We will find good homes for them where adults (and children) will love them simply because they're lovable. We have a fun application process and interview to be sure that the recipients are good Beanie Baby foster parents. We will NEVER EVER sell or trade (or buy) any beanie babies. The BBAA is a completely free and donation based charity.
The world needs more happy things. Use your Beanies for the power of good.
If you would like to donate a collection of Beanie Babies, please contact me. You are welcome to mail them or drop them off if you wish, but I would be more than happy to come and pick them up for you.
Have a beanielicious day,
Great Thymes

Ok. I have a "new" phone now. It's way too complicated, but I may learn to use some of it's features before it becomes obsolete. It's not much use without your phone number though. What is it?

I heard this "scientist" on the radio yesterday. She said something that makes sense to me. Paraphrasing:
"We don't have a study that proves that cell phones cause brain cancer. But we certainly don't have a study that proves they DON'T cause cancer either. Until we do, do you really want to play Russian Roulette with your brain?"
This feels a lot like the early warning signs that smokers got, that most ignored. Even if we can transplant your brain into a robot body with chainsaw...

Representative Dennis Kucinich has presented 35 Articles of Impeachment for george bush. Congress passed his motion yesterday to refer these articles to the Judiciary Committee.
Kucinich has actually presented Articles of Impeachment before - for Cheney. Once again, I'm sure, they'll try their best to do nothing. Because largely, We the People, do nothing.
I sent an email to my rep, Barbara Lee. I urge you to do the same. It really does make a difference. To email your rep, click her...
