</a>
<div>Ok, so I was riding my bike to work one morning about a week ago and the sun was about three or four hands breadth above the horizon. A lot of clouds, but not like a single storm system or anything, they were scattered with lots of blue showing. So I'm riding along the Waterway towards work, Palm Beach and the ocean on the other side of the Waterway, where the sun is. (I'm trying to paint a picture, here). Well I look over and I see a finger of cloud reaching down from this seemingly small cloud racing toward sun. I can see the whitish center with the darker cloud swirling around it. It was like a white snake. Before it reached the sun the spout spun out of formation, the cloud it was formed of drifting away. I was late to work but I didn't care. I would stop and watch it all over again. Nature is truly amazing.</div>

    </a>
<div>I went to my beach today, with my Indian blanket, sarong, and thong. I only had the thong in case there were too many people to skinny dip. Luckily, my beach was deserted for the most part. There were a couple of people walking by but very rarely. After swimming for a bit I got out and sat on my blanket. There was a storm rolling in from the ocean. The sun was sailing toward the Western horizon. I packed up all my clothes to keep them from getting soaked and I stood in the rain, letting it wash over my body. I sank my feet up to my ankles in the hot sand to keep my feet warm while the rain cooled off my body and washed the salt off. I started out humming deeply and then started chanting Om. After awhile of that I turned to face the sun, which was behind cloud at this point, and bowed low, letting the rain wash my back. I turned back to the sea and bowed to the sea. As I was bowing the sun came out from behind the clouds and a large rainbow arched over the curve of the ocean horizon. I soaked in the joyful energy and let the rainbow fill my heart and body. Then I uprooted myself from the sand and swam in the surf while the rainbow was going strong. I was a little kid, playing with the sea and the waves, seeing how long I could float holding my breath, letting the current move me. As the sun started to go behind a cloud again I got out and sat on my blanket again. I am so thankful to live near the sea and be able to cleanse my body and soul in the Mother of All Life.

Blessings to my brothers and sisters around the world! May the Beauty of the Goddess fill your heart!</div>

In the middle of the river in a glass boat,
The souls of the dead floating by,
I stuck my hands down into the blood
and drew my Great Granny up high.

I cleansed the gore from off her skin,
and shuddering with sobs she shook.
My fingers through the knots of her locks
  untangled and caressed them smooth.

I hugged her to me and lifted her up
and she smiled as we drew near the shore.
As close as I could I helped her step out

I found this at my favorite library site. It is called "The Ancient Irish Goddess of War", written by William Hennessey abt. 1870. It is an article in a larger manuscript. Collected in this article are the references of the Morrigna in the ancient literature of Ireland written down by monks and folklorists. Nemhain, Badb, Macha, and the Morrighan or Morrigu, also called Ana (Anu, as in the Paps of Anu in County Kerry) and Anand.

It is pretty clear that the Lady of Ravens is actually the Lady of Scare-Crows. It is the Hooded Crow (Royston crow, scald crow, scare-crow, hoodie) that was seen as Badb, and hence all of the Morrigna. Though try telling Pagans today to switch from the Raven. It won't happen. I believe that any crow or raven can be an avatar of the Morrigna, including red-winged blackbirds and grackles.

Please don't let this raise any hackles. :) I also am a child of the Morrigna, and They speak to me in Their own way, by leading me to this piece at Sacred-Texts.com, for example. I know She/They touch us each differently. That said, I believe that my understanding of Her/They has deepened greatly in the last year. May the Blessings of our ancestors be with you this Samhain-tide, and all year long!</div>

    </a>
<div>I went to my favorite beach this past weekend to see what kind of damage TS Noel caused on its journey up the coast. The high tides have been especially harsh last week with strong winds coming from the Northeast. Waves have been chomping away at the sand and about half the beach between the sea wall and the water has disappeared. It's pretty dramatic, not just this one incident, but to think about every two or three years new sand is dredged up from the sea floor and poured on the beach in an attempt to keep the waves from washing over the road. I shiver to think what would happen if the sand was never added.

Anyways...while at the beach I walked a bit and came to a place where the waves were crashing into the seawall as it kind of jutted out in a rounded point. I was strolling along, smoking, and thought I could get past the point before the next big wave came...well, my silly ass got slammed into the wall...my smoke went out (of course) and I was dunked, jeans and all. I laughed my ass off! I wasn't going to get in because with the wind it was a little chilly. But I guess the sea had other ideas. Luckily I was almost done with my smoke anyways...and it just gave me an excuse to get naked.</div>

    </a>
<div>I feel a whole new maelstrom of feelings as I approach the final harvest of the year, Samhain. It has been a year now since my brother was killed. Now over a year by six days. In that time I've started keeping a weekly devotional at my ancestor shrine. I start by paying my respects to a happily long list. I feel very fortunate to know so many of their names. It was only when I added my brother's name to the list did I really start paying attention to them.

As I walk the roads between the worlds the wound within my soul from my brother's death seems to heal and be balmed. It aches, oh Goddess how it does ache still. But slowly it knits whole again. The void that sucks my breath away and robs my body of strength comes less and less.

I feel them shielding me and soothing my spirit. The chaos of my world shaking apart has been stilled...but with a strung tension, waiting. I'll meet them between the worlds, and then the new year will begin. May my deeds honor their memories.</div>

    </a>
<div>In the last couple of months my Lady Brighid has been kindling a fire in my head and driving me to learn all these folk songs. Now I'm teaching myself to play harp. Right now I'm just playing chord progressions, and plucking out one or two melodies. However, I'm 36 years old and just now picking the instrument up to learn. I feel like I'm being called to sing these old songs, and I now have over 13 memorized. A couple of them I sing fairly well. :) Here's a list of the songs I've learned recently.

Wind That Shakes the Barley
Carrickfergus
She Moves Through the Fair
Scarborough Fair
Foggy Dew
May Morning Dew
Twa Corbies
Wild Mountain Thyme
Four Green Fields
Raglan Road
Black is the Color
Come by the Hills
Oro Se Do Bhatha Bhaile

I haven't played harp for any of them yet, but I plan to start learning them. Scarborough Fair will probably be the first one. The song I wrote for Manannan (in an earlier blog) is sung to the tune of Scarborough Fair.

When I'm practicing I feel like the spirit of the harp is coursing through my body and animating my fingers. I can almost close my eyes sometimes. The music seems to flow unbidden from me. I noticed from the couple of sources I've checked that B doesn't seem to have its own chord. Or at least it is uncommon enough not to be included in a basic teaching format. Well I've been playing with it, and decided to sharpen the F. It sounds amazing to me. With an F sharp I play B chord...Dmin chord...C chord...and then B chord again. A melody plays in my head just out of reach...however I think it will come out in a couple of days of practicing. It will be my very first song I've done where the music came before the words.

I feel very blessed and grateful that Imbas has graced my life. I will continue to woo Imbas and practice, practice, practice.</div>

    </a>
<div>No good fortune at your door
No good will comes your way
No peace within your heart
Til this debt you have paid!
And may the Great Almighty
Be the final Judge!

The sentencing of my brother's killer is coming soon. JWL has offered a plea bargain of guilty to manslaughter, with a lesser maximum sentence of only five years. The prosecutors told my parents that it was most likely that JWL will only serve a year incarcerated with the remaining sentence spent on parole.

Prisons are overcrowded. There's a lot of crime in my home town right now. None of that matters to me really. JWL will pay. The scales will be balanced.

RETRIBUTION! RETRIBUTION! RETRIBUTION!
The Goddess feeds the ravens!

UPDATE Aug. 15th
I just got home last night from Michigan. The sentencing was yesterday. JWL received one year in the county jail and five years probation, with an electronic tag. ANY violation of probation and the judge swore to give him 15 years. To his credit, the judge really wanted to give him more, but that would mean a trial and the chance that he would walk free. That's due to the plea agreement of course. My family agreed to this agreement because we knew that he would violate his probation and get the maximum. We have no doubt. JWL has to pay my family back for funeral expenses. $200 a month. If he fails that in any way it's a violation of his probation. That will work against him as well as his lack of honor, self control, and remorse. He'll shoplift something...or get caught using...oh yeah...he's a drug addict...another force working against him.

My mom was able to speak to JWL before the sentencing. She prepared a speech to make sure she said everything she wanted to say. She asked me to help her with it and of course I did. She asked me what I would say if I could speak and I recited the chant at the begining of this blog. She immediately said, "I'll put that at the end, as my last words to him." I stood next to her while she read this, holding a large portrait of my brother and his twin boys. The fool made eye contact with me and my mother while she was reading...and especially her last words. Staring him in the eye, I softly intoned "So mote it be!"

The judge was very moved by the number of family and friends that showed up for the sentencing. We had at least 20 people there. He was also moved by my mom's speech, and my youngest brother's who also spoke. A lot of us had also sent letters of impact to the judge before hand and he assured us he read every single one of them. It was really hard for the judge to give him this sentence. He made it clear to JWL that he was betting with our family and expected to see him again soon.</div>

Bee Ritual for the Eve of Midsummer

    </a>
<div>Greetings my beloved family and friends!

This was posted on the Covenant of the Goddess discussion e-list, and I feel very strongly about the issue of bees and their alarming disappearances the world over. Please consider doing this working, or something similar, on Wed. June 20th, the eve of the Summer Solstice. Please pass this on and spread the word to all Witches, Pagans, Heathens, Shamans, Lightworkers, Gardeners, Santeros, Paleros, and anyone else who cares about the health of our enviroment and planet.

"Dear Friends,

You are my vanguard. Until recently I never thought a whole lot
about the Bee-friends. But just recently I've felt called --
well, more like compelled -- to draft a ritual to lend them magical
assistance during this time when so many of them -- honey bees
in particular -- are just dissappearing for reasons that no one seems
to understand. I was googling for updates today and found that
the theories include pesticides/herbicides, virus, parasites, cell
phone emissions (although that one is less popular than it was a
month or so ago), and -- wouldn't you know -- stress. This is a
simple "do-it-yourself wherever-you-are" ritual, although I am
sure people could have fun getting together and doing it in groups if
they wanted. I would appreciate it if you would all send it on
to anyone you know (with or without this introduction), post on any
lists where it would be appropriate, and otherwise help to get it
out there to as many people as possible before June 20th. Let's
see how easy it can be to start an "internet movement."

Thanks and Love to all,

Dara"

Ritual for the Bees

To all Energy Workers, Shamans, Pagans, Faeries, New Age
Visionaries, Healers, Lightworkers,Tree-huggers, Bambi-lovers,
Gardeners, and other custodians, caretakers and Stewards of
Mother Earth:

For any of you who are concerned about the recent flight of a
significant percent of the world's honey-bees through the veil
and away from our Earth, then please consider joining one of your
number in the following ritual to encourage the return of our
Beloved Bee-friends -- those joyously industrious pollinators and
fertilizers, builders of hive, colony, community, and makers of
sweet honey who dance so devotedly to the buzz of their own
passionate flight.

To be performed on the Eve of the Summer Solstice
Wednesday, June 20, 2007.

As the longest day fades into night, light a candle. Let the
candle be of beeswax. If you don't have a beeswax candle (or
prefer not to use one) then dab a bit of honey on the candle of
your choice. If you have no honey or beeswax -- or even if you do
-- feel free to choose a bright yellow candle, or other candle
that reminds you strongly of the energy of Bees. You might like to
decorate it with images or symbols that make you think of Bees
and the role they play in our lives. You could even prepare a
special place for it -- make an altar or a spot on your altar --
dedicated to the Bees. Perhaps have some fragrant flowers near by. (These
things are not necessary, just good to do if you desire.)

As you light your candle, think of the Bees. At this point, if
you are aware of any fear or distrust you have of Bees because of
their stings (a purely defensive weapon that carries the heaviest
penalty for use), then consciously release it now. Send it into the
flame and watch it go up in smoke.

Think of all the good that Bees bring to our planet and to each
of our lives through their work of pollinating the plants and
flowers. (Do you like almonds? Did you know that bees pollinate
100% of California's almond crop?) Think of their buzzy-hoppy
fertility dance and the determined, hardy fragility of their
industrious, interconnected, community-based, hive-minded
uniqueness. Think of the taste of honey. Be in appreciation.
Let your heart fill with love for our Bee-brothers.

See, sense, feel the Bees flying -- singly, in pairs, in small
groups -- through an invisible gateway into the blue sky of
earth. Imagine them greeting, and being ecstatically greeted by, the
flowers who have longed for their delicate touch, the
encouragement of their voices, and the stimulating buzz of their presence.

See them joyously making their way home, flying eagerly into the
doors of hives and colonies that have waited patiently for their
return. Welcome the Bees back to their homes, their hives. Make
Buzzing sounds. Don't be overly quick or perfunctory about this.

A friend of mine, who teaches shamanic drumming, says "risk
boredom"; buzz for at least 3-5 minutes and really get into the
feel if it. Dance around. Place a taste of honey on your tongue
or in your tea and savor the taste extravagantly. Sensously rub
a salve or ointment containing beeswax into your skin. Do any or
all of these things. Thank the Bees for their service to the Earth.

Thank the Melissa, the ancient Greek Bee-Queen, for the labors
and blessings of her people to the Earth in any way that feels joyous
and true for you.

If you like, you may use this chant:

Bzzzzz Bzzzzzz Bzzzzz Bees!
Bzzzzzz Bzzzzzz Bzzzzz Bees!
We call you home to the Hive.
We call you home to the Hive.
Striving, Thriving,
Striving, Thriving,
We call you home to the Hive.
We Light your Way.

On this longest day we Light your Way
Home to the meadows
Home to the skies,
Home to the Flowers
Home to the Trees.
We light your way Home.
Bzzzzz Bzzzzzzz Bzzzzzz Bees!

(If this chant doesn't work for you, feel free to make up your own,
or do the ritual without one.)

If it is safely possible, burn the candle down during the night.
(Be safety-minded. Do not leave candles insecure or untended).
If it isn't possible, then re-light the candle on consecutive nights
until it is burned through. If enough of us do this, the bright
beacon of our focused Love, Will and Intention will guide the Bees
safely back to their homes to the continued health and joy of
Mother Earth.

Whether or not you feel drawn to perform this ritual yourself,
please forward this email to anyone and everyone you know who
might remotely be interested. The more people who participate the more
powerful it will be. I thank you. The Bees do too.

Bright Blessings to all. Blessed Bee!

<div>My beloved familiar cat, Pele Shakti Gaea, died today around 12:30pm. She was in the bathroom with me while I was in the shower. When I got out, she hadn't moved, then she circled around me, layed back down, and died. She had been on the decline for the last couple of months, she was with me for fifteen years this month. It was very strange to have been witness to the passing of her soul. I could see and feel it when it happened. In fact I feel that I somehow assisted her in letting go. I feel very honored that she chose to be by me when she passed. Most cats hide away to die. I shall miss her greeting me every morning and every afternoon when I get home. And I'll miss her sleeping by my head at night. She has been a true and constant friend these many years. May Bast keep her in catnip and yarn. Fare thee well, Pele.</div>

Hail Manannan, Son of the Sea,
Father of mists, and tender of dreams,
Lord of all worlds I call unto Thee
Lend a branch of silver to me.

With golden apples and delicate chime,
to part the veil 'tween space and time.
O Thou who art our guide divine
Lead us true, our imbas to find.

There is a well nine hazel trees ring,
That cast their fruit in the sacred spring,
Where salmon swim and silver birds sing,
Five streams from there Thy wisdom do bring.

If imbas you seek for song and for spell
Drink ye deep of both streams and well.
Now travel by star, by wave, and by swell,
In Tir na n'Og does Manannan dwell.

With Manannan's branch assured is our way.
We of good heart we never shall stray.
From dusk til dawn, 'tween night and day,
Lead ever true, for this we do pray.

From isle to isle and from shore to shore
We wind a path through the ancient lore.
From river to stream, from loch to moor,
O Son of the Sea, Thy mist we adore.

<div>My brother's killer sits in police custody tonight. On Monday the 8th, exactly three months since my brother was pronounced dead, his killer was arrested in his home after the police 'fugitive squad' stormed and raided it.

Friends, pray with me that Justice is served to this man. He took my brother away from his family, all his friends, from his young twin boys, and away from me. Friends, pray with me for Justice. </div>

~Jim Morrison, from the CD American Prayer by the Doors

My brother Ben is a hard core Jim Morrison fan. As are my father, myself, and our youngest brother Nat. At Ben's wedding him, our Dad, our brother Nat, and I huddled up on the dance floor with our heads touching and started dancing around in a circle to L.A. Woman, drunk and singing our loudest. It was one of the most bonding moments I have ever had with my father and brothers.

My brother Nat got married and we danced to L.A. Woman again only this time we included our cousin Fen. Again a very bonding experience. There's just something about Jim's voice and the Doors music that transports your soul while your grooving to it. Jim's Muse shines through still.

At Ben's funeral we played L. A. Woman while a video slide show flashed pictures of Ben's life with our family and friends. I sat next to my brother Nat and we hugged each other with our heads touching, singing to ourselves along with the show.

Break on through, Ben. I love you.</div>

    </a>
<div>October 8th, my younger brother, Ben, was pronounced brain dead. After partying and dancing Friday night with our step-brother and our step-niece and one of her friends they pulled into a gas station to let the girls use the restroom. Well another group of people pulled up and a shouting match started between the new girls and my niece and her friend. When my niece got hit across the face my brother went to break it up and get her out of there. He was then sucker-punched to the side of the head and he fell, hitting his head on the concrete hard enough to knock him out and cause brain swelling. His brain became oxygen deprived.

I flew up to Michigan to be with my family, and to pray really hard that he would be okay. But there just wasn't anything I, or anybody, could do. The doctors showed us test after test confirming that Ben's brain was not going to keep his body alive for long. The death certificate will show 3:14pm, Oct. 8th, as the time of death, but given the injuries he suffered he was probably gone early Sat morning. My Mom and I kept vigil over him until the organ donor people were ready to harvest. I annointed his body with holy water and prayed that Ben's spirit would be okay after this transformation. It was strange how warm his hands were when I was holding them, knowing that I would not see him again in this life.

Ben was 29 years old and the father of twin 4 year old boys. He was recently divorced and focused his whole life around his boys. I am so proud of the man he was and became. Ben is a noble soul full of honor, generosity, and loyalty. I have no doubt that he'll stick around for awhile. Though it won't be the same ever again.

I'm going to miss him terribly. My heart is sore. I still haven't quite been able to grasp it all. Brother Ben is gone from me. At least physically. I've talked to him a couple of times and he's assured me that he's okay. But then I start thinking I'm crazy and losing my mind. I've never had anyone this close to me pass over before.

I wonder how our relationship will develope now that he's crossed over.</div>

<div>There are new pictures in my album! :) These are the shrines that we set up at Merry Meet in Ft. Lauderdale. Each one was dedicated to a different deity representing seven different seas. Each shrine's candle was lit during the Covenant of the Goddess Grand Council meeting, and during the main ritual and Tea Dance as well. The main altar was placed in front of the large cauldron we used to blend the waters of the participants (from local sources and weather events around the world) with sea water collected during the ritual. The Lady and Lord we called upon were the Great Mother of All Life and The Old Man of the Sea. The statues on the main altar we given in a raffle to one of the participants. And it just so happened that the winner was our Interfaith representative, Don Frew, who brought the Waters of the World, which is a blend of sacred waters from all over. He takes these Waters to different interfaith events and shares them. Its truly a wonderful magic!</div>

Manannan as trickster

<div>At the Summer Solstice this past week I decided to do circle on the beach. It was the first time I had celebrated Midsummer on the beach since my handfasting ten years ago. We are since separated and I've spent the last couple of years trying to find a meaningful way to celebrate this Sabbat.

When Manannan came into my life I found that long ago the people of the Isle of Man used to offer bundles of straw or rushes on the highest hills at the Summer Solstice. I also found many references to a Silver Branch. I decided to make one out of an apple branch. I used silver wire and attatched bunches of tiny silver bells all over it. I've used it in circle to call the elements and to open the faery ways, and I've used it to cast the circle as well.

I decided to take my silver branch to the beach to bless it and dedicate its use to Manannan. The ritual was beautiful and moving and I stayed long after soaking up the vibes. Then it was time to go. So I packed my bag up and rode my bike three miles home.

When I got home, I realized that the silver branch was not in my bag. It had fallen out and I didn't realize it! So, it's now 9:45pm, I usually go to bed during the week around 10pm because I get up for work at 5:30am. But, I had to go back and try to find it. I realized that I had forgotten to bless my silver branch with sea water and thought that Manannan took back what he lent to me. So I rode back, looking in the dark and riding slow the whole way. Yes the whole way back to the beach. Now there's even less light and I still hadn't found it. I retraced my steps from where I had my bike to the site I did circle at. And there it was. I almost past it by it was so hard to see. It had fallen out of my backpack as I was walking back to my bike. I was SOO happy to find it, and grateful beyond words. I immediately took the branch to the sea and dunked it three times and thanked Manannan for letting my find it. I thought He had taken it back. As an offering of gratitude I rode the longer way home, and who should I run into? My ex., standing on a pier in the Intercoastal Waterway in the middle of the night. (It being about 11pm) Talk about weird! Luckily we're still friends so it wasn't too awkward. After talking for a few I went home. I was so tired I was fading fast and I had a long way to ride home. My Lord works in mysterious ways! My Midsummer turned out to be quite interesting!

Hail Manannan! Son of the Sea!</div>

Coyote's Shadow Play

<div>I have just uploaded seven photos of myself at the "Post Yourself Naked!" Tribe.

BE AWARE!!! There are Full Monty shots in here, as well as one yoga posture, a nice butt shot, and my first full frontal and face nude photo! :) (In my first nude I'm wearing a mask)

I like being naked! And I like being creative with my nakedness. I plan on adding more, so if you're interested then stay tuned....

I've always loved being naked outdoors. Running upstream as fast as I could, pretending that Diana had set my own dogs after me to bring me down....or hiding in the six foot high ferns that grew in the woods behind my house...lying in wait, listening to hear if anyone was out there spying on me and my nude form....or climbing up into a really tall tree, in nothing but my bedsheet. Then I hit puberty, and I had even more fun naked in the woods! :) Though I only had myself to play with.

I always had a secret desire to be seen naked. It excited me to no end. I was much too shy to streak around or be obvious about it, but I would do things like sleep in the buff and arrange my sheet to be slightly revealing...

or walk around in a large shirt with no pants or undies on...I did that once and my Dad's roommate came home by surprise! I was 12 at the time. He didn't say or do anything about it, but he went back out kind of quickly. My Dad's never talked to me about that incident so I don't know if his roommate told him or not....

At some point in my life, I'm not sure when, I pushed those desires back, away, and down. They never got me in trouble, thank the gods, but there were a couple of times that my heart raced and I was afraid of getting caught.....

Recently, I've been looking at my Shadow, and all my little corners, nooks, and crannies. And what did I find, but this lovely treasure! I got a digital camera for the holidays and now I have the creative freedom to express my Rising Leo desire to be seen! I've embraced this aspect of my Shadow and now I want to show myself to those who want to see.

So if your interested check out Post Yourself Naked! Tribe!

    </a>
<div>This season of Beltane I find myself contemplating more and more on the fire that drives us humans into a passionate frenzy, whether through a sexual experience, or drumming on the beach, or dancing, or any of a myriad of different treasure trails to take.

Every year I search deeper and deeper into the Mystery of Beltane. Beyond the concept of the Lady and Lord having intercourse, Beltane transcends simple physical fertility and procreative sex. I feel the Call to rut much stronger this time of year and, being gay, procreating is the furthest thing from my mind.

Along with sex, I find my devotions become more ecstatic. There's a certain CD or two that I play and dance to. I easily find myself slip into trance and I devote my energy to either my Matron or Patron, or I send it to whatever end I've raised it for. I also have found myself slip into trance while drumming. With my body on auto-pilot my awareness slips into a gestalt of sensations, everything all at once. The few times I was able to sustain this level of awareness longer than five minutes were truly enlightening and deep. Each one has changed the way I look at the world.

While I celebrate ritually Beltane Eve, I enjoy the whole season of Beltane til Lughnasad Eve. And gods willing have someone to enjoy the season with! ;)</div>
