AARP TaxAide Program Volunteering ... A Community Approach

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE: December 2007 AARP SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AARP is looking for volunteers to help taxpayers complete their 2007 federal and state tax returns in 2008. Each year from February 1 to April 15 the AARP Tax-Aide program offers free tax preparation assistance to low and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. If you like to work with numbers and can balance your checkbook, you probably qualify for the job. Volunteers who are bilingual are also needed. Prior to February 1, in cooperation with the IRS, volunteers receive free tax training in basic income tax preparation. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of four hours per week between February 1 and April 15. Individuals of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to apply. AARP membership is not required. Expense reimbursement is provided for program-related, out-of-pocket expenses.
