</a>
										<div>Friday night 1/2 of the Wicked Gypsy crew drove to Pittsburgh for the Taxim show at Your Inner Vagabond. We had such a great time. The dance community in Da'Burgh is awesome. Thanks Bernie for including us in the show.

Saturday was a dance gig at a private party. Talk about some no-fun-havin' stuffed shirts. Usually, party gigs are fun, everyone is in a festive mood and you can always count on at least a few people to really get into the entertainment, get up and dance with you, etc. This party was wierd, everyone just sat in their chairs and stared, like they didn't quite know what to make of the situation. Fortunately, I only had to be there for about 20 minutes, (although it was about the slowest 20 minutes of my life).

Then Sunday, Doug and I played music during the Bath Chamber of Commerce dinner, and then Doug's band played the party after the dinner. His band-mate Tony played with us too, It was really nice. The event was in the Gatehouse at Hale Farm, the acoustics were fabulous and I couldn't believe how beautiful the space made my pennywhistles sound. I was sorry that we only had 2 whistle tunes on the set list.

Next weekend will be spent at Pennsic setting up camp. I'll come back home for the week and then back to Pennsic for war week. I'm so excited, screw Disney, Pennsic is the most magical place on earth.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Vacation is over and I am completely exhausted, I've even got larengitis. But it was totally worth it. So, for those of you who've been waiting on pins and needles to hear about my week, here you go.

Doug and I spent last week at Kentucky Music Week in Bardstown, KY. I took 5 classes a day, Mon-Fri, stayed up late jammin' and drinking every night, and had a blast. I took fun classes in stuff that I'm already proficient at, like pennywhistles and lap-dulcimer and a few to challange my musical abilities, like bowed dulcimer, and advanced music theory ... and singing.

Turns out, I'm a lousy singer. I thought I sounded pretty great in the car and the shower, so I'd take a voice class so I could sing while I play. Aparantly I've been listening to myself through rose-colored ears. My buddy Bing Futch ( http://www.darkstudios.com ) is an unbelievably talented man and has an amazing voice. He is one of those people who is so upbeat, positive and affirming that he can motivate you with little more than an encouraging smile. Bing is convinced that I don't actually "suck big time" and that like anything else, singing well just takes practice, and that if I don't give up and keep practicing and thinking happy thoughts eventually I will be good at it. I love Bing for being so awesome and supportive. My neighbor however, may not appreciate his advise.

I also acquired a new instrument, Doug's friend Rick Thum ( http://www.rthum.com ) is a master of the hammered dulcimer and builds beautiful instruments. So, Doug bought me a Rick Thum hammered dulcimer because he totally rawks, and I mentioned that I'd like to learn to play one someday. So, my neighbor got to listen the A part of Whisky 'Fore Breakfast on my new hammered dulcimer about 912 times last night. Tonight I'll be working on the B part, and as soon as I get my voice back, I'll be practicing my singing. She'll probably be moved out by the end of month.

Especially for Zingara, I am including my weather and tent condition report. Monday afternoon got crazy windy as a storm front blew through about 10 miles away. It completely ripped the rain-fly of the tent away from its tie-downs. The tent was promptly covered with big blue tarps which kept everything dry throughout the thunder storms that lasted all day and night Friday. I will be looking on-line today to see if I can purchase a replacement rain-fly for my tent. If not, I will be purchasing a new tent for Pennsic....and staying in a hotel at KMW next year.

It's good to be home and back to work, I need the rest.

										<div>I've upgraded the Big Ass Bindi site. A new logo, lots of new items and better photos. I still have lots of new products to photograph and post. As Ahmi would say "my Big Ass is looking toight." There's still belly bling and bindis with matching boxes that I hope to photograph today and have posted before the weekend. Still looking for feedback and suggestions for improvement for the site, though.

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/391a9b91-1522-4845-9628-7733fd0f94eb/blog/36164ca6-9c57-45f7-89ff-6e9113b69123">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/4c6/be8/4c6be897-fb71-47fc-9ce2-3c757554eec0.thumb" width="52" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>The Big Ass Bindi business is booming! Since their debut in March, nearly 200 pieces have been sold already. The response has been overwhelming. Big Ass Bindis were “selling like hotcakes” at Qaina and at Spirit of the Tribes. (Personally, I’ve never purchased a lot of hotcakes, nor have I purchased hotcakes quickly, I really should look up that expression). Suffice it to say, they were a popular item.

Big Ass Bindis have also been donated for the auctions at the Shimmy for a Cure Gala in Erie, PA on May 31, http://tribes.tribe.net/charitybellydanceevent08, and for the Jane Doe Benefit in Boston, MA on August, 17 (contact Zahara Nachash for info. http://people.tribe.net/zehara). I’m all about good karma, so if you have charity event scheduled, feel free to contact me regarding donations.

This month Big Ass Bindis went international! Amara Om is now the official distributor of Big Ass Bindis in Australia, so now gals “down under” can get a Big Ass without paying international shipping. All you Aussie dancers can contact Amara here on Tribe for details. http://tribes.tribe.net/ked

I’ve been busy with some custom orders lately, but I have lots of new stuff in the works. The latest addition to the Etsy shop are the Bindi Boxes, beautifully decorated tins that are the perfect place to store your whole bindi collection. There are lots more of the Bindi boxes on the way, I just got a shipment of blank tins yesterday and will be working on them over the weekend.

More new stuff in the works:

Big Ass Bindis that come with their own individual sized Bindi Box. These Bindi Boxes will be baby sized, slide-top tins designed to hold only one bindi. The Big Ass Bindi and the single sized Bindi Box will be decorated to match. Now that’s serious style.

Belly Buttons are still in the “testing” phase, but should be available very soon. These designs are made to be worn, you guessed it, on your navel. The Belly Buttons will be made in the same way that Big Ass Bindis are made, with a sturdy vinyl back, so that they can be attached with spirit gum or eyelash adhesive and re-used to your heart’s content. With any luck, I’ll have the first few Belly Buttons up early next week.

So keep your eye on the Big Ass Bindi shop over the next week for all of the new arrivals!

    </a>
										<div>So I've been making bindis for a little while now, (thanks to all my girlz who have been road testing them for me). This past Thurs I set up a shop on Etsy and spent Friday uploading photos and descriptions of each bindi and setting up the homepage. Sunday I got my first sale already, and she bought 2! I am so excited, I hope this a sign of things to come.

<div>The following is from Zahara's blog today. I was furious when I read the initial blog regarding this advertisement. I will be sending a piece of my mind to Boston Now, and strongly encourage the rest of you to take a minute and do the same.

Contact BOSTON NOW Fri, February 29, 2008 - 11:25 AM
Dear Fellow Dancers:
Many of you have read this in my blog, but I would like to extend this information to other local area dancers as well.

On Thursday, Feb. 28th, 2008, BostonNow, a FREE newspaper distributed through the Massachusetts area, mainly at train bus stations, listed in their "Nightlife NOW" section (page 12 of 2/28's issue) a small "blurb" about belly dancing at The Middle East on March 2nd.

Here is the exact wording (I saved the page if people want to see it):

MARCH 2:
Belly Dancing
The Middle East Corner, 9 pm
Free. Gyrating women---and you dont even have to hit the ATM for dollar bills first. 472 Mass. Ave. Central Square.

I became very upset after reading this as its feeds into the stearotype of "belly dancers are strippers".....

I emailed and called BostonNow as well as wrote a lengthy blog on their website.

I am encouraging other dancers to do this as well. Whats most disturbing is that this paper is free and being distributed to thousands of people.

We work way to hard to put up with this shit from a crappy wanna be newspaper.

Their website is www.bostonnow.com

You can also call their main office at 617-556-1700 and leave a message with CEO Russel Pergament, Publisher Michael E. Schroeder or Editor John Black.

Also you can write letters to BOSTON NOW, 30 Winter Street, Boston, MA 02108

Thanks,
Z. </div>

										<div>I've just returned from the funeral of a dear friend. Scott Fetterolf died this past Friday in a car accident. He was the owner of Scott's Folkatorium, a patron of the performing arts, a councelor, a generous humanitarian, and a wonderful friend. Scott wouldn't hesitate to go a mile out of his way for anyone in need. He had the heart of a saint and filled his days with volunteer services. He is best described as an eccentric collector and eclectic musician. While his favorite things to collect were license plates, bobble head dolls and fruit stickers (especially those from bananas), he was more importantly a collector of stories, and of people's hearts. Scott will be sincerely missed by all of us who were lucky enough to know him.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Last night we all headed to Pittsburgh for Khafif's Halloween Hafla. The event was held at Your Inner Vagabond's new coffee house, which is just beautiful. The place is huge and it was packed, it was standing room only for the show. What an incredibly fun night it was. Khafif performed as dolls and Zafira as zombies, (Maria's Michael Jackson zombie was the coolest). Purple Matilda did a great number as Alice, the Cheshire Cat and Caterpiller and Wicked Gypsy did our Lunatic Goth number. The highlight of the show was Bernie's beginner students doing a Moulin Rouge can-can number, they were great!. Khafif and Ishtar rocked the joint with AWESOME music afterward and there were even drummers outside on the sidewalk to entertain the smokers. We all had such a wonderful time. I can't thank Bernie enough for inviting us, the Pittsburgh crowd sure knows how to throw a hafla! Can't wait to see y'all again soon.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Saturday night was the CAP Witches Ball. Featuring the combined musical talents of Ishtar and Snakes Rising. I danced along with Shiva Raye, Rhiannon and Queens of DeNile. What a great night it turned out to be. The music was just fabulous and the energy from the crowd was spactacular. You know that great feeling when you're just in your "zone" - it's like we were all in our "zones" Saturday night. Shiva Raye and I did several duets, swords, snake/veil and some other fun stuff. I love dancing with him, I wish we had the opportunity to do it more than a couple of times a year. Rhiannon was beautiful as always, she just emits such grace and beauty when she dances, it's so inspiring. Helen and her "Queens" revived the rubber snake dance, which I love, (I always feel mocked-in a good way). Thanks to everyone who made the trip from Cincy, Columbus and Pittsburgh. It was an honor to perform with all of you. Thanks to Scott Morrison for the great photos and a big thanks to CAP for having us!

My last vacation this summer.

<div>Doug and I are in NC this week. We are visiting with friends at their awesome beach house on Emerald Isle. I spent the morning walking the beach and collecting shells, (found some really great ones too). We sat on the balcony and watched pods of Spinner dolphins playing in the surf, it was sooo cool! Later today Chris is going to teach me to snorkel. Doug and I swam in the ocean yesterday, took a nap, drank lots of beer, went out for an incredible shrimp dinner, and spent the hour before bed in the hot tub. This is the life! </div>

Total Embarassment

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/391a9b91-1522-4845-9628-7733fd0f94eb/blog/65476544-303b-4a8b-a435-70909fb83e47">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/d35/ac6/d35ac60a-d7d9-482d-a279-7476f0b4f90f.thumb" width="53" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>While I was at Pennsic I bought a didjeridoo, Melanie picked it out for me, it's very colorful and really pretty. For some reason I have these uncontrollable impulses to purchase instruments that I cannot play with the intention of learning something new. Last week I acquired a doumbek and this beautiful didjeridoo, and I still haven't removed last summers tin whistle purchase from its package. I'm like a junkie. But I digress, back to the embarassing story...

I have played around with the didjeridoo some and I can get the right noise out of it, however, I have trouble changing the sound. The ombeture required is one of loose, blubbery lips, like when you give someone the raspberries. I have trouble with this, even as a kid I couldn't do it well. Seems completely idiotic, because aparantly everyone else in the world can do it. So, once I get the didjeridoo going if I try to change my ombeture to change the sound, I lose my blubbery lip thing. This is going to take lots of practice.

So, last night I am in the car with my daughters and we are discussing the blubbery lips and the didjeridoo. I demonstrate to them how I'm having trouble maintaining the blubbery lip thing. So they begin to show me, I try some more, they show me some more. We stop at a red light and are all facing each other making the blubbery lips. I occasionally check my progress in the rearview and continue to try to do it just like them.

Just then I hear laughter and realize that the four young men in the car next to us have been watching this entire thing and they are absoloutely losing it. It suddenly occures to all three of us how utterly ridiculous we must look, we then fall into a fit of hysterics, partially due to total humitation. We sat and laughed until we had tears for least another full minute before the light changed. When we got to the next traffic light, we glanced over to see that the car full of boys was still next to us and they were making the blubbery lips back at us. Which sent the occupants of both cars into another fit of hysteria. We stopped off for Indian food, still laughing, and my daughter said, "Mom, don't practice that in the restaraunt, OK, I've been embarassed enough." I had to restrain myself from bringing up that time she barfed on me during my friends wedding.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Melanie took the picture above, it rained twice a day nearly the entire second week of Pennsic, when it wasn't raining it was incredibly hot and humid. Didn't matter though, I had a blast anyway. Suprisingly, I didn't dance, not even once the whole week I was there. Between the heat and my tired feet, I just wasn't motivated too. I did get to play lots of music though. Friday night was the best night EVER! After playing at the Chalk Man Pub and the Wulf Den party, I joined an "ameoba" of dancers and musicians floating around absorbing more dancers and musicians along the way until we stopped and had our own throw-down in the middle of the road, it was awesome. I bought a doumbek, haven't really even had it out of the case yet, I'm hoping to start messing around with it this weekend though. I walked a million miles, drank to excess, shopped until I couldn't shop anymore and spent my week hanging out with the coolest people in the world. I can't wait 'till next year!

The previous week Doug &amp; I visited his family in SC. We made a little side trip and spent the day in Savannah, GA. It was the highlight of the week for me. Being a history buff and big fan of Midnight in the Garden of Good &amp; Evil, I was in heaven. We toured old homes and the cemetary, ate pralines and seafood and went on a ghost tour after dark. It was great time. Myrtle Beach was a huge disappointment to me, not being a sun &amp; surf kind of gal, I shopped. Doug &amp; I did take a moonlit beach walk one evening, it was very romantic, that was about the extent of my time in the sand though.

All in all it was a great vacation, the two weeks passed so quickly. I've come back to a huge backlog of work to get caught up on. Somehow while I was at Pennsic, Doug downloaded a virus, so I came home to dead computer. As soon as it's up and running again, I'll post photos. It's good to be back home.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Last night during the Red Tour show, my sweet fella had a gig with his band at a party around the corner. The party is thrown by one of his lodge brothers and is a big annual event. We were all invited to drop in on the party after the show. So, Malika, Raye and I did, in our costumes. We had a beer or two then danced. Everyone loved it, we were thankful for the beers.

This party is referred to as the "Hudie Doody Party", don't ask why. I was informed this morning that our dancing has raised the bar for next year's Hudie Doody entertainment.

We had a really good time, and it was a great way to end the evening.</div>
