[box]"5"

-first draft

I was born into the screaming I was born into the dancing I was born into the hoping I was born into the drowning I was born into the fallen I was born into the praying I was born into the wretched I was born into the neglected I was born into the books burned down by the river I was born into the souls being lifted by the hymns I was born into the leaves being moved by the wind I was born into the world trade centers collapsing I was born into the ground moving earthquakes shaaaaking us like belly dances around the world, our mother is upset... we awake the foundations trembling hearts skip a beat O, O... can you lift your wings Oooooo can you feel my spirit thru my skin don't let the illusions fool you. don't. I was born into your soul groove I was born into your mind freeing you from yourself I was born into the future I was born into the day when none of this matters I was born into total consciousness and awareness making love to Maya* until she climaxes into truth for us all to see the naked translucent beauty touch what you know touch what you see touch what you can.... be, what you can be.... what you are....

* Maya is the goddess of illusion, or of what is seen

At CASTLE CARNEVALE 2006 I read this while a DJ spinned. I had been wanting to work with a DJ for years. When I was @ WQFS Greensboro I used to mix myself and read spoken word over it OR have a special guest to read, but I had not worked in a live setting w/a DJ before. It was a wonderful experience and I plan to do it again, even thinking fo adding a DJ for when bLIND iNFANCY performs as deathstar flux.

When I read live I changed a few lines to make them work better with the beat, I ended up reapeating the lines...

"I was born into the screamng, I was born into the dancing, I was born into the fire, I was born into the love of Maya"

juxaposed with... " I was born into the praying I was born into the water I was born into the wretched I was born into total awareness"

This is a poem from a series I have been working on. It is only the first draft, hopefully it will improve.

The first [box] went over well in SPOKEN WORD open mics when I was big nito that scene in NC. I was shocked so many people liked it, it's not as "typical" poetry as what most people usually like or can get into. It's more experimental and not easy to find "access" into.

Since then, last year... which would be 2 years or so after writing the first [box] (still very unaware I would ever write another other [box]es) I composed [box] "2" for the first LIFASAR! event Introvert Creative Group put on.

It was composed for what I would be doing within the event. As the event started coming together and I started gathering together the muscicians I would be working with bLIND iNFANCY was formed, and we "performed" [box] "1" and [box] "2" together as part fo what we called a Neo-American performance.

Shortly after the first LIFASAR! "1" last Spring I composed [box] "3" and "4" and realized they were to be a series to be called [boxes]. The plan is to continue experimenting with them and release them all together, part from my other poetry. I generally do not read them alone, I share them thru bLIND iNFANCY's performnces, although I did read them to a very diverse crowd last Summer, and once again found people from very different walks of life and from different age groups as well to appreciate them. As this has happened repeatedly I've begin to feel perhaps it is because the true themes underneath and the purpose for my writing them is universal.

Some of the other [boxes], but not all of them, can be found on-line at the following links...

[box] - coming
[box] "2" - coming
[box] "3" - coming

Thanks for reading my work.... I hope you could feel something from it...

Adrian

I like this poem a lot. Infact it would go so well with a performance that a past performance group (Electric Butterfly) put together. Phoenix and I have talked about recreating this performance again. At some point I really want to recreate it. Perhaps you could incorporate your reading into it. It would be perfect! I will tell you more about the performance in person.

I didn't make myself clear. Electric Butterfly was a performance group that I created in the past. Phoenix, Faerie, myself and a few others were a part of it.
The title of the performance piece was Etznab. It was based on the the Mayan's future predictions of what will happen to Mother Earth and it's inhabitants.
