Makyo
www.dakinirecords.com | Tokyo-Japan
Makyo has been based in Tokyo and creating zen dub and Asian ambient since 1994, alongside the first wave of ethno-club producers like Banco de Gaia and Loop Guru. Since then, Makyo has kept it underground, recording four albums for his own label, Dakini Records, and appearing on about a zillion comps, including labels like Six Degrees, Interchill, Ministry of Sound, and more. Remix work has included Transglobal Underground, Cheb-i-Sabbah, Adham Shaikh, and Omar Faruk Tekbilek.
As a dj, Makyo has a particularly strong following amongst Tokyo's booming bellydance scene for his dancefloor mixes of tribal dub and eastern grooves. Makyo has spun alongside, Steve Hillage/Mirror System, Mixmaster Morris, Karsh Kale, Alex Patterson (The Orb), Haruomi Hosono (YMO), Adham Shaikh, Dj Yakuza, Cheb-i-Sabbah and more. Makyo's latest tracks can be heard on Tribal Matrix, a Dakini Records compilation featuring tracks inspired by many of the dancers who appear at Tribal Fusion Night.
