</a>
										<div>i dont think i've posted anything my last year at art school but here is what i remember:

- i got my BFA studying graphic design and received the design excellence award (only one person per year gets this award)
- for my senior show in a gallery i made stickers of my bomber bunnies and they are all over boston (thank you to all who contributed)
- have my website http://lindsaygarber.com
- my boston room mate and former class mate came back with me to cali and we kicked it for a week
- watched every episode of 1992 x-men and 4 seasons of x-men evolution

...so lots has happened and i feel like i want to continue to write in this blog... HELLO AGAIN!

yesterday i went sketching at an informal figure drawing session with the theme of "Fall Leaves" (see attached image). It felt so good to draw again. being able to really look at the figure is a lot different from drawing from the television or trying to sneakishly draw people from behind my sketchbook. Its hard to to explain this feeling i get when i'm making art that i really want to make.

tomorrow is my day of birth ...day and i've been given so many awesome gifts already. My grandma paid for my sketching session admission, my dad made another great meal saturday with my moms cleaning and today i had thai food with my friend delphine who also gave me a sketchbook. THANK YOU!

currently I'm working at Moonscoop doing graphic layout design for marketing and promotions which is so great and i'm loving it! I'm also going to Fantasy Factory tomorrow for a meeting. Maybe Rob Dyrdek will let me jump in the foam pit?

    </a>
										<div>its been so long and i've gone so far being in the same place. all i do is work 12 hours a day at school, 7 days a week. i'm getting farther in work but it never feels like anything is every complete. where is all my time going? its been about 3 months since my last post and it has felt like 3 years. i'm not going to try to remember the things that have happened in this absent time, so lets move on. currently and right now i'm doing a south park marathon and its almost at an end. i have just about seen every south park episode, this show is brilliant. the past 2 days, and probably tomorrow too, i've just been geeking out. i didnt do any design yesterday and just read a lot of blogs and comics. I'm reading the Marvel Zombies series and i love it way more than the original series. its so interesting seeing "good guys" resort to this evil life of blood sucking and brain eating for survival with their powers. today i worked on my resume a bit and studied about the grid system in design. its quite interesting and still a little bit of a mystery to me so i downloaded some classic grids and started dissecting them so i could understand it better. the more i explore the more i see my style of design changing and getting better so its important that i take days off to relax and explore.

i've been working on design so much. i know i need to write more.
the geeking out continues...</div>

break is coming to an end but not the winter. its so snowy out and it snowed again just the other day. today is so beautiful and blue with the earth covered in white powdery frosting. I have a slight cold and the dayquil is giving me a slight light headed feeling that i'm really enjoying right now. the past few days i've been working till up to 3 in the morning and one night till 6 in the morning working on freelance for Kabillion. They have power point (PPT) presentations that they have mocked up and depending on who they are pitching and their budget they need new illustrative designs for their pitch. so far i did Tys Toy Box, Monsters Vs. Aliens (upcoming movie), General Mills (1 for trix, 1 for reeces puffs, 1 for lucky charms), 3 for Pokemon Platinum, and Sketchers. I also did another small freelance for a one-sheet for the same company, different person and also i work at the school library 10 hours a week. i havent really had a day to just breathe until just recently.

i'm seeing that as a designer its okay not to be BEST illustrator but i think it is extremely important to be able to draw. i dont really know the exact words that i'm trying to say but being able to be INSPIRED by EVERYTHING around you, art or not, it will only help you be INFLUENCED. for these projects for kabillion they already had a template for their PPTs, i just had to illustrate and design the missing pieces. so in this freelance i was not really a designer, but and ILLUSTRATIVE-designer. i was able to draw influences from what kabillion is as a company and be inspired by their style and mimic it and apply it to the company they are pitching to and come up with the right equation of what the illustrations need to look like to be able to fit in with their proposal.

its very important to draw.
to be influenced.

so now i'm relaxing, enjoying this rare moment where i have nothing pressing to do and i am okay with it...

going to make some more art.</div>

<div>i completely lost track of the days. i went from spending 3 days over at my neighbors place making a sculpture then 4 days by myself not going outside or seeing the light of day and made more artworks then packing up clothes and my snowboard stuff and hopped on a greyhound to New Haven, Conneticut leaving my computer at home. I spent a few days with my friend going twice snowboarding and saw Chris Brown 5th row center at the Mohegan. From there I was picked up by Amelia and Brooklyn and went to NY for new years eve and didnt sleep at all. Brookyln and I later went to Saratoga, NY and met up at a cabin with a bunch of her friends and partied and went snowboarding on one of the biggest mountains i've seen, Mt. Killington in Vermont.

i'm finally home now and watched a Mortal Kombat marathon, catching up on email, and doing little art projects. Tomorrow I start back working in the AIB Library 9-2 mondays and tuesdays to get some cash. Now i'm its time to catch up on my web comics and blogs!

good to be home!</div>

<div>so much has happened.... damn it why cant i have more time! its like i blink and a month goes by. right now i finally have a chance to sit down and get some words out of my mind. i'm trying to remember what i've done these past few weeks, i know i went to my friend brooklyns place in upstate NY for a weekend and she lives on such beautiful land with horses and Richard Serra stuff in view from her house. gorgeous. I went to CT again with my room mate tiffany for thanksgiving and got a bunch of work done and did some partying to unwind from the school schedule. the AIB library has let me make a few posters for them and i just finished designing a time line for world history compared to art history. it just started snowing a lot yesterday and its still snowing today and probably forever it looks like.

so i had an epiphany. i need to get back to my roots of art. i'm really loving the work i'm creating and i had such a great semester of artwork done. BUT. the reason why i even started to do art in the first place was to express myself. if i was sad or depressed i'd make art representing that and it would make me feel better. i've been kinda stressed with all this work i'm doing for freelance, senior year at school, work at the library that i barley have time for anything. so this break i'm going back to my roots and making art in all kinds of mediums with MY style of art. Last night i made a scratchboard which can be seen on my deviant art and it was so much fun. i also got into screen printing and my friend is going to show me how to make paper so i can make paper and my own prints. i'm going to try to make some money with my own illustrations just so i can get that release and satisfaction of doing my own thing away from the computer for a minute. i love you computer, dont get me wrong. i just need to remember why i started doing art.

    </a>
										<div>its just that one of my teachers told me that yesterday. it was an amazing feeling.

in my design systems class one of our final posters is a systems poster of a topic we want to immerse ourselves in. broadly i choose snowboarding. more specifically its the system which the balance of mind, body, and the elements that allow an adrenaline rush to flow through your body and experience heightened life. attached in this post is the icon that my teacher and i came up with. its crystallization of a snowflake and the adrenaline symbol merged together. he really liked it.

today is a holiday so i'm just sitting on my bed hanging out while mike makes me chocolate chip pancakes and my friend stephen is coming over at noon-thirty to play wii and watch movies and such. the lunch special will be hot dogs. well i'm going to go skate soon to get some ingredients. short post.

<div>prepare yourself! i am actually staying home tonight. i just need a day to stay in and be around my things in my room. i feel as if i've just been traveling around everywhere and since my friend pat just left i finally get my room back to mine, all mine. its been a really long week for some reason. hummm. well tomorrow i'm meeting up with my friend and we are going to do a personal project together, she just doesnt know what it is yet haha. i want to see what she has to say about it but basically the end result will be a tribute book to the misfit animals that no one loves in the 2d flat world so they come to the 3d world (our world) and still no one likes them. i want to make large and small scale animals on paper and get them on walls interacting with trashy urban areas. like if one animal was on the wall eating out of a dumpster and maybe throwing water on the art to get a weathered look. SO, i'm waking up early to take pictures of some urban areas to inspire the shapes and situations of creatures that barbara will create. she has the right style for this and a creative mind to make these weird creatures.

so here i sit for now, enjoying the couch potatoing.

oh, just wanted to mention a great book i got from the library today: BookDesign A comprehensive guide
sounds dry but freaking sweet! its helping me out a lot with ideas for my type book. not everything has to be stale.

										<div>

i'm finding it harder to find time to post this year compared to last year. i'm going to have to do something about this. mostly i've been designing and partying...mostly designing. my design systems class with nathan (side note: coincidentally when i had nathan last year for visual research which ended up to be a close class has mostly the same people in this semesters design systems class with nathan ((side side note: small school))) has produced a lot of work but we are continuously revamping them for an end project which is partially a process book. i did post some works on my deviant that are considered to me 90% done because there is always new things to learn and directions i may not have taken. so these are done for the sake of my process book:

http://innermission.deviantart.com/art/Problem-Chart-Template-102668319
http://innermission.deviantart.com/art/Six-degrees-of-separation-102667415
http://innermission.deviantart.com/art/Health-Feedback-Loop-102666934

hummmm starting a project in type which we design pages for an entire book called Vitruvius. maybe 10% done on that so far. we just went through one round of page designs for Prelude and round two is title page and table of contents.

for art and culture of japan we went to a tea ceremony in jamaica plain called Showa. my teacher william thrasher is a tea master and has practiced for about 25 years. he shared with us a lot of knowledge and we had tea from the tea master. great experience.
illustration survey, not as many field trips... actually none but i do love that class. our term project is to show that we can be "inspired" by something so we had topics and had to draw an themed image and write how you were inspired. i'm doing the one where you pick a play and make a poster. i choose dracula the play from the 1920s and am being inspired by that eras poster design with san serif letters and flat art with not much negative space ...... and am also being inspired with the character design and colors of Rekal with a technique of Ericailcane (nickname). its just in the middle of our second critique today and then i'll have my final concept.

digital painting, from really rough sketch just starting to paint and finish concept while painting...

my personal life... ah yes.
had a pre halloween party with a keg the saturday before halloween, freaking amazing. i dressed up as grandma death (attached pic of me in our creepy basement). i had no costume. we went to good will and it smelt of grandparents so $20 later and with an added acrylic WA LA!

R.I.P. The Keg

my friend patrick watson came and visited me from wed 29th till nov 1st. we partied like rockstars, went to Cheers the bar and a few other places. 4 parties on halloween night including the library party where i dressed up as a regular nintendo game cartridge by cutting cardboard and painting it with acrylic (no picture D: )

wellllll i hope that made up for some time.

design systems: living systems theory icons

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/3c968f78-7395-4406-a9f6-b252f5125bb7/blog/8b0a669a-89a1-46e4-b446-228b7a869422">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/566/87b/56687bba-337e-477f-b23a-b99215d9c282.thumb" width="50" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>i've missed posting some of my homework assignments so here is one for design systems that i actually feel that is finished.

we were given a sheet with 20 critical subsystems of a living system by dr. james greier miller and we were asked to come up with some icons to represent this. since its a LIVING system and these things communicate with each other i wanted to make icons that could communicate with their respective systems. i felt that this creature is ambiguous enough that you dont know which living system it is, it could be a human, plant, alien, animal... you dont know what it is exactly.

there are also 3 categories to the system:
sub systems which process both matter-energy and information
subsystems which process matter-energy
subsystems which process information

and there are names for each of the icons. to show this in my poster (cuz i wanted to) at the bottom i put this:

Living Systems Theory

reproducer / boundary / ingestor / distributor
converter / producer / matter-energy storage / extruder
motor / supporter / input transducer / internal transducer
channel and net / timer / decoder / associator / memory
decider / encoder / output transducer

Helvetica Neue 46 Light / Subsystems Which Process Both Matter-Energy and Information
Helvetica Neue 65 Medium / Subsystems Which Process Matter-Energy
Helvetica Neue 46 Light Italic / Subsystems Which Process Information

obviously i cant put those weights on this post so you'll have to see it on my poster enlarged. i also decided to make my poster in black and grey (grey icons because as they are the biggest thing they dont need to be the darkest as well) for ambiguity annnnnnd its cheaper for a black and white print heh.

    </a>
										<div>something weird has been going on with tribe, some of my recent posts havent survived for some reason.

it was recently my birthday on the 12th and 2 of my friends deirde and aggie kidnapped me and took me to NY to a hippie music festival. it was so amazing and very much needed. there was no school monday so we stayed there camping for a few days. the first day we got to NY at 3 am and they wouldnt let us in without paying for something ridiculous. there was no phone reception for miles and no houses either. so we slept at a country club golf course till 8 am and went back. since it was my bday they didnt want me to pay so i hid in the back seat and we cut the extra parts of their wrist band off and made me a wrist band. they never checked them anyway. i really got to shed some skin there, my mind has been cloudy and being away from work and worries and cell phones really helped, best time ever thank you girls!

i havent done much else except work which i'm fine with, i really feel like being a designer is what my mind was made for. everything i think about relates to systems in design. if only i didnt have to sacrifice drawing for it. i'm still trying to draw as much as i can but birthday gifts and occasional little doodles are the only time i get to draw.

speaking of birthdays i made my friend russell a birthday sculpture which is attached. its him as a blobby alien creature with his hair eyes and glasses. it took about 3 days and it was my first successful sculpture, my first one caught on fire cuz it was too small and too many pieces. this one is about 4 inches high and i used wire for the frame, toothpicks for the glasses, and acrylic to paint it.

i went to the mfa the other day for my art and culture of japan class to see the japanese exhibit, i think i'm going to do my project on their ceramics. so beautiful the art of wabi sabi which if you were to ask someone that is from japan what that means, they wouldnt be able to tell you, its something that they are born knowing. basically its beauty through non perfection and keeping with traditional ways of things but this can be argued.

thank you everyone for an amazing birthday, everyone who posted a note on facebook and myspace, called (but i had no reception so thanks for the voice mails), sent a text, or was amazing enough to hang out with me (daria, deirdre, aggie). without my friends and family my art would be empty.</div>

<div>i'm in boston now in my new apt. i dont know why its taken me so long to post at least something! i'll try to quickly recap:

apartment is coming together well and now all i need is to pick up my bed today with brooke (my neighbor and homie since dorm times)
been sleeping on a futon on top of a couch i found at the side of my house
found my bed frame, couch, desk, and chair at the side of my house
got a job at the slide library at my art school and today is my first day
im so glad to see everyone here at school again, i really missed them and their artist ways
my room mates are mike, tiff, kim, betsy
lost my cell phone in the taxi the first day i got here off the taxi when i saw darias mom rachel
stayed with them the first night so that i could move in early the next day
15 min by bus to school and fenway park
5 min walking from my house to the bus stop
part of the snowboarding and anime club again, anime meets today
taking digital painting, history of illustration, art and culture of japan, type 3, and design systems
got some wire and a tool to start some sculpy projects for my personal work and will start this weekend
been out so much for work and play that i think i might be getting a cold but i will fight you!

there is a lot i missed but now its time to move forward. so to recap, life is good.

the next post will be better and i'll be more consistent. i was just way too busy with my first apt, seeing everyone from school, and working on my projects.

post you later.</div>

    </a>
										<div>work finished at the studio, done painting the house with my dad and brother, beijing olympics are over, and now its time to relax till i have to go back to art school in boston on sunday the 31st. the only problem is, i think i forgot how to relax, whenever i try i just get a headache. or maybe its all the hours i've spent in front of the computer. i fixed my friends computer and created a digital painting/mixed media wallpaper for her desktop while watching super mario super show season one from the early 90s, its on my deviantArt. i love this show but i'm sure people would argue its awesomeness.

i'm really excited to see every one in boston again. its weird that i care about these people when i know that this year might be the last year that i get to spend time with them or talk to them ever again. the only way for me to get through this is one day at a time with no regrets. i have to remember that the life i'm living is mine and i have to keep myself happy even though i know it will be a sad end when this year is over.

on the apartment side of this i'm realizing its hard making plans for the new apt in boston. move in day with 4 other people from different states (my room mates), there is no real way to be organized about it but i'm sure everything will come together once we are all together. its just the waiting i dont like, i need action!

i've been hanging out with as many friends as possible and having an amazing time. this summer was fantastic and its still not over yet, not until i say so haha. if you have checked out one of my previous posts i injured my leg playing softball and it left a nasty scrape. uploaded to this post is a pic of my leg now. i dont know if it will leave a scar but in time it should mostly go away, there are only a few baby scabs left and still a large red heart area where the scab was.

now i'm going to nap, then draw, then beer pong at pats where we are the champions. </div>

    </a>
										<div>it has taken me to be sick and injured for me to actually settle down and relax. i feel as if i accomplished so much these past few days. i set a new personal record on screen watching: television (1 screen), laptop(1 screen), and my DS (2 screens)! i also finished a long over due art assignment, my dad asked me to design a logo for his company Linzack Entertainment LLC. Posted is the page in my sketchbook which i jotted down ideas. the problem i was faced with was what exactly is Linzack? its not a normal name so i really had to think about what it is as a company. my dad has written and produced for a variety of genres on multiple platforms (tv, web). i've been writing words down for a few days and something came up while i was taking a nap after work, fresh squeezed ideas. you continuously have to be versatile and creative. So the words squeeze, fresh, mind spring came to me. i knew i didnt want a huge illustration of a logo, i wanted the words Linzack and some sort of symbol that can be used as a graphic for the future identity of the company but i just didnt know what yet. thinking about entertainment i wanted a typeface that had a humanistic feel to it rather than a corporate feel so i choose adobe calson and brought it into illustrator. i turned it into a path and morphed it. by using calson, a classical typeface, and giving it a fun feel to it im showing that we (Linzack) come from a strong skill set and have something a little different about us, something interesting about us. for the entertainment llc i used eurostyle, a modern typeface, because it looks like a platform and is different from calson. the Z in Linzack has the twist in it from the words that came to mind earlier (squeeze, fresh, mind spring). by only effecting one letter in the middle it can be used alone as a symbol and is also i think its a smart little add to the logo itself. to end it what Linzack REALLY derived from is me, yes me. well and my brother zack. the symbol Z in linzack IS zack and i. me with my beautious curly locks and my brothers nickname is Z. lots of typing i know but i didnt MAKE you read it... :D

hung out early with gina rose and dannell, worked on logo and letterhead most of the day, played video games, pat came over and we drank beer and watched olympics opening. </div>

    </a>
										<div>07/16/08 UPDATE: i finished up the the casablanca dogs last night and got the approval for print today so i attached a photo of the image i created. when i get a shirt i'll post that.

ugh, i hate it when life gets too busy to just let my blog flowwww, i mean my mind. so much has happened i dont even want to think what the last post was. i guess i'll just write whats on my mind and worry about if this makes sense later.

i really have to finish that Casablanca thing i'm doing, my room mate kim (HI KIM!) came and stayed with me for 2 weeks and we went somewhere just about every day. her favorite place was the griffith observatory but i think my fav was santa monica pier with shana. it was just so much fun being at the beach and having the band play and being on the rides. or maybe my favorite was camping at the beach and having the homies come and playing beer pong at the shoreline and seeing brandi and todd again before they went back to Colorado. too bad she didnt stay longer cuz tara had a freaking amazing party which basically lasted 2 days. so today i'm finishing the Casablanca dogs for print!! i talked to my old mentor and i'm going over to his house tomorrow after work to show him my sketchbook and just catch up with him. he also has 2 kids and his almost 3 year old daughter is already into skateboards so i'm going to go over there and inspire another future athlete.

i'm already starting to miss school, i'm so close! i'm so excited for my digital painting class and i have been drawing but i havent been painting much on PS. because of work i have been doing vector renders though. i just finished up a style guide making patterns, hang tags, packaging, icons and the style guide itself and now i'm working on some product development for a childrens show bath toys. so i do get to render things but it seems like vector is the way to go when making this for a style guide just because they can be scaled to any size without any loss.

been reading some manga's, bought another coheed comic, catching up on a lot of anime (justin made my list even longer, gaaaa). there is still so much i want to do like make a comic series about me and silly things that happen, finish up my web page and have that online, sew!!! i wanted to sew over this summer break! i'm also playing my DS and sketching as much as possible but still not enough. alright so enough complaining, i'm going to check up on my mom and finish up these casablanca dogs so i can get crackin on my dads logo!

work work work work kkkkkkkkaaaaa!</div>

    </a>
										<div>i just have a lot on my mind like always. i havent had much time at all to figure out dreamweaver but i have designed the pages, now i just have to cut it up and make a CSS style sheet and get my images together and my resume and yea i have a lot to do but its obviously on hold right now. the image attached is because of the justin drawing. my friend saw that and wanted me to draw in my own style a scene from casablanca but with dogs with the "are you going to leave me" feeling in the illustration. it was my first yes to an illustration gig and its not paying, maybe thats why i said yes, its non-threatening and i get to draw in my style and if it works out i'll get my art on a t-shirt and i'll have one. i never drew for anyone before so i sat with him and talked a bit about the scene and the feeling and the age group of people who are wearing it and i made him get me some images for the feeling and reference. this attached sketch is a few days after pre sketching with my friend to get the layout okay'd. yesterday he okay'd the style so today or tomorrow i'll vectorize it and add line variation but the skeleton is there which i'm proud of but i will tweek some lines as i'm vectorizing, it just happens.

i also went to archery with my brother and neighbor last wednesday. my brother has his own bow and hes pretty good, he broke someones arrow with his arrow. i think we will continue going. i just washed my car and my friend stopped by and now my brother is going to take my dad to the emergency room for kidney stones. he'll be okay, love you dad. my mom is forcing me to wash her car so first i washed one side of it to see if i could get away with it and then she noticed so now i'm waiting for her to get back and i'll wash the windows and then it should be good. her car is massive, you'd understand.

so here i sit, i might go to hollywood to meet up with some friends/co-workers, or hang out in simi and watch a movie or go to sagebrush and have some drinks. i'm thinking about it.

::wink::

    </a>
										<div>i love drawing. i see how things are just shapes and if you imagine things simply its easier to build from there rather than focusing in on one area and getting caught up and not seeing the bigger shape as a whole anymore. when you are focused too much in one area i think thats when it starts to look off, especially if you are trying to draw a face. i'm starting to be more comfortable with starting drawing people from the shape of their forehead and then size the shape of the head from there and work in. also i'm finding that when i have the planes of the face in mind it comes out more realistic, i like this style of drawing i'm finding. i'm just pumped from drawing my friends birthday gift (tiki bob), i havent been able to draw people like that in a while (referenced his myspace photos). i'm happy. oh yea, also are some sketches from my friend patricks BBQ where i ate way too many ruffles. </div>

										<div>i just art directed and worked on shading my neighbors 4 ft tiki! we had to use a blow torch for the shading and sand paper for the highlights. we are almost done and i'll post a pic when we are done. now, i'm sitting in my neighbors garage which they turned into a kick it area watching game 2 of the basketball finals lakers vs celtics (home game celtics). i'm going for the celtics on this. i just have to when i'm in LA, it makes it really fun to watch when i'm with my friends though in the end, i'm not sure if i really want one team or the other to win. i just want to see a good few games. i've been really busy seeing friends and hanging with my parents and work that i find myself tired a lot and watching christina ricci marathons?? well i dont take anything i've done back, i love everything i'm doing and i just saw kung fu panda today! it was so amazing, so amazing that i dont even care that i got 2.5 junior mints melted on my ass in the theater. i'm going to buy that movie but right now i'm going to try to see if i can get my hands on Garfield and friends the cartoon series off netflix (sometimes writing in this thing reminds me of stuff i wanted to do). i just moved it to the top of the list (sorry dad) wa haha. my friend pat invited me to a bbq last night and i did some drawings of some the people there and i'll post that next time, this time i'll post the sketches i said i'd post for last entry (a little behind, sorry.)

<div>midnight is a perfect time to write a journal post. lots of thoughts.

i'm reading a comic series called nextwave - agents of H.A.T.E. i got to remember that. great artwork, great humor. hummmmmmm work is fun, designing a playset and laptop bags and stuff for Hero108 presentations. went to the getty villa sunday with the roses and my brother. did some sketches of busts, nothing too special. i'm going to have to go again so i can spend some serious time being able to really look at what i'm drawing, the boys didnt really want to stay long and i couldnt really relax when i was drawing. i need to sketch every day, from life and from the mind. there just needs to be more hours in the day or i need more energy. babbling. my friends told me they threw my sketchbook out the window, i just bought it, only three pages touched. it would be a crime to toss that. first was the shock, then anger, sadness, acceptance. they just want me to spend more time with them and not my sketchbook, i accidentally found it later hidden in their car. i'm trying to balance my attention better now, i love my friends and dont want to loose them.

i'm also working on a portfolio website to house my links and news and such but i'm using dreamweaver and its taking me a while to figure things out. also the lack of time thing is an issue. i intern at the animation studio 4 days 29 hours a week and i'm a social butterfly. time is scarce.

i'll post my sketches later on, its 12:27 am. sleeeeeeeeeep.</div>

<div>i've been in LA for about a week now, i love it! i love all my friends and missed them so much, i feel that we are probably closer now than ever. in my other life i finally got a place locked down in brighton, MA. got the first floor of a duplex, doesnt sound too fancy but its at a great location and i'll be living with 3 photo majors and one more graphic designer. we have big plans for installations and i cant wait to be living in an actual home on my own with my art friends. i miss my art friends and i'm trying to stay in contact over facebook but its still hard, i'm more of a face to face person damn it!

well i start my internship/job at taffy entertainment tomorrow and i'm really excited to get to see everyone and to get some more work for my resume and portfolio. unfortunately i took a 5 hour nap and its almost midnight and i'm not tired. so here is a short list of what i've been up to:

*party with pat (who i'm talking to online right now, great to have friends who stay up all hours of the night)
*kick it with my girls danielle, tara and cass
*see my homies nicholas j, jessica, the roses
*sketch/draw whenever i can and when my friends dont steal my sketchbook from me and threaten to throw my sketchbook out the window
*play video games with my friend stephen from boston on the wii (captain falcon for life!)
*went to city walk/ go bar hopping around the valley
*found out i have a green thumb after taking care of my neighbors garden
*go to bbqs with patrick

i'm having the best time ever.

project wise, i'm currently gathering artwork to put in an online portfolio. it will be a slow process cuz i dont really have time yet for it, too busy having fun but i'll keep the blog posted.</div>

    </a>
										<div>i've been so busy with school and freelance and getting ready for critique week that i have missed so much to write about. i cant remember it all so i'll just write some notes and you probably wont understand them but here they are:

> tiffanys surprise birthday, bowling, panda cake, decorated her entire wall with origami.
> went to see some bands at bills bar with deirdra and aggie and rode bikes around boston/cambridge at night and it was amazing.
>finished wim crowel type exhibit and used a real letter press and made paper with "Lindsay Garber" / curiouser &amp; curiouser as headline in palatino typeface. want to do more with letter press.
> stayed up for 25 hours.
> finished re branding project for the new england aquarium and had a great presentation. made a flash navigation system, mock up web pages, 3 advertisements focusing on the wonder and surprise aspect of the aquarium and how its more than just an aquarium because they give a behind the scenes look on the ocean world and support ocean conservation with research scientists around the globe and participate in rescue and care.
> finished advertising concepts final ad campaign which i used for my new england aquarium re branding project.
> pre-press is over, art of the western world final on tuesday.
> got a place to live for next semester in a town home.
> busy with freelance but having lots of fun designing (i'll be doing that all day today)
> lots more but cant remember, just having a great time.

so attached please find process for a painting i created with the theme of bunnies in war. it took me about 4 hours. i have more bunnies that i will be turning into paintings. i want to experiment with different styles with this same theme. the actual pictures of my acrylic painting makes it look really crummy because the scanner really picked up on the canvas texture and it looks better in natural light in real life but oh well. the third image is a lead pencil and white pencil drawing of my friend as a fox waking up from sleep. i know this could look different than a yawn but its a yawn! take my word for it. i walked into her room and she was just waking from her nap and she looked so cool with her hair all over the place and she has many pics of people drawing her as a fox character so i wanted her to have my work too. it took me 2 hours.

i had a huge personal art day yesterday and it was much needed. now its back to the computer screen.</div>

    </a>
										<div>with our critique week commin up fast all i've been doing is eating, sleeping, creating artwork. its making me kinda anti-social and whenever i get into conversation with my friends it always seems to end with art speak. i also have to force myself out of the computer labs and out of my room to socialize. i dont have a problem with it but i think i should be more social. 2 nights ago i went out with a grip of friends and hung out and partied and it was a lot of fun and much needed. i wish more people would hang out and do art with me though. when i'm by myself working i get distracted, i need to be with people i know working so that i dont go crazy and it doesnt seem like a lot of people like to work this way. one of my friends dave has been way cool to hang out with though. hes down to work and hes down to kick it so its great to have a friend like that.

i recently got to create a poster for AIB Artist Collective which is a group my friend started where we have student speakers teaching other students some of their talents so we all get to share our abilities. (Poster attached above). The artist collective is branded with typeface helvetica neau, 100% cyan, 100% magenta, black and/or white. So this is what i came up with. I choose to keep it a white background so that we wouldnt have to trim off the white boarder that would show from a solid color bg because printers cannot print full bleed, the black artist pops off of the colors to give it another dimension, i clumped together the title artist collective to be a mass form or collection and give a nice visual, i knew that this had a strict color pallet so i put the layer blending style to multiply to get another color out of the cyan and magenta overlay, wa ha ha. i laid everything else in a nice grid and didnt make things too big or too small so that it would keep its elegance. also by having it with a lot of white space it makes it pop from the wall of many other crazy posters. it is easily read, seen, and different from the rest of the things on the walls of AIB.

funny how something so simple could be so complicated. Nathan Felde, my adviser, teacher, and all around amazing man once said that "simple = dumb" i can kinda agree with this, i think everything depends on what you are trying to show. this poster may LOOK simple but it defiantly is well thought out and not "simple."

kim kim kim
kim and i went to the new england aquarium, i cant believe i almost forgot this. it was so beautiful and totally helpful for my rebranding of the NEAq assignment for corporate design. they have this giant turtle which is about 15ft long and swims in this giant tank which has a walk way that spirals around so you can see the different levels of fish swimming in their habitat along with sharks! way cool. the penguin exhibit was closed but it didnt matter. kim and i got the NEAq kids passport and were stamping all the exhibits, dont be jealous.

thats all for now, i'm just installing adium, some new chat program thats fully customizable, and catching up on emails and blogs. later tonight i'm going to school with my friend dave to work on more homework.

until then, i'm deserving of a break :)</div>

    </a>
										<div>over spring break i had to let go of one of my bracelets. it was a sad time. my friend made it for me and i've had both my string bracelets for a long time. my left hand was the one from my friend gina and my right hand is from my friend brandi which she brought back to me when she got back from her hunny moon in jamaica. I have now a replacement bracelet on my left and i feel whole once again. it needs to be broken in though.

i've been listening to a lot of music, nothing too new but i have 3,749 songs so its not like it gets old fast. i did recently trade one of my friends some music and i got some elvis costello, the smiths, blonde red head, cursive, girl talk, hang on the box, hot chip, lcd sound system, liars, the pixies, spoon, sterio lab, uffie, and yes the vengaboys. i also downloaded one of the new nine inch nails cd that they were allowing for download for free and let me say, that is such a freaky album. its called ghosts and each song is called ghosts so it counts higher in ghosts as the songs persist. really cool idea.

i have a mid term for history today which i'm pretty confident about. i just want to get it over with though because wednesdays are my days off and i want history out of my mind so i can concentrate on all the other work i have to do. registration is soon and i looked over the schedule of classes for next semester and talked with my adviser, this is what i'm hoping for:
Type lll
Design systems
Illustration survey (a history class where you go to museums and sketch and learn about drawings)
The art and culture of japan
Advanced computer illustration (digital painting with corel painter and photoshop) &lt; most excited about

Classes currently are going on schedule but its a lot of work as usual. in type i'm making an exhibit about Wim Crouwel who designed New Alphabet typeface and we have to make a catalogue, ticket, poster, and gift store item. advertising concepts is the usual sketches. art history i'm working on a comparison paper between rene magritte (who i absolutely love and saw his exhibit at LACMA) and claes oldenburg who is all about objects in space and peoples communication with the objects. same with magritte but in a slightly different way where magritte paints. they both create art that thrives on the free association of objects resulting from hybridized thoughts that generate multiple meanings and new entities. pre press we are having a speaker from a print place come in on friday and next friday we are taking a field trip to a print place. corporate design is really taking up a lot of energy, i'm re-branding the new england aquarium and i'm going on a free trip there that the school offers with my room mate kim this sunday to get a hands on experience.

Both my room mates are going to be visiting me in july. more specifically kim got her ticket for july 1-14 and now i'm waiting for tiffany to get hers which she will get when her birthday money comes in on the 17th. i'm sooooo stoked to have them come and see my california playgournd. i got a campsite right on the sand for two nights and we will be going to santa barbara for 4th of july. all my cali girls will be there too and i cant wait to see them all. i miss them so much.

well thats whats been going on lately. i got to sketch a little bit yesterday because my class went too long and i missed the shuttle to go home and had to wait around for 45 min for the next shuttle home. it was really fun and i wish i could just draw all day from life. there is a picture i saw of one of my friends that i think is absolutely amazing and i think i'll draw that for her today just so i can get some fun drawing in. maybe this saturday i'll get to go to another free figure drawing class. if all is on track with my homework i defiantly will.</div>

    </a>
										<div>omg i'm so sick! just when i was getting better in CT with my room mate Tiffany and got so much work done i come back and i'm sicker than ever. even right now, but i must update this blog for sanities sake. i have a lot on my mind about the school work i'm backed up on because of this cold but every time i sit down it feels like my head is going to explode and my eyes get puffy. last night i drank nyquil and totally passed out and had a dream about my brother. i miss that kid. i talked to him today.

CT was a lot of fun with Tiff. her family always treats me wonderfully and gives me just the right amount of space and comfort at the same time. thank you guys, youre family to me. i finished watching code geass and black lagoon and now i'm about to start some new animes when i get over this damn sickness.

over the break i got to complete my type book "one week of life" and my starbucks advertising campaign (pictured above). let me explain.
in my advertising concepts class we are given an idea that a company wants to fulfill and we have to come up with a campaign to advertise this idea creatively through ads, banners, web banners, POP or whatever else is asked for. for our mid term we actually got to execute our campaign. i choose starbucks. they wanted to have new travel mugs that are economically friendly because we waste less paper. the first cup is free if you buy the mug and every time you reuse your mug its 25% off your drink. my campaign is people dont have to go through making things out of their old paper cups to be eco-friendly and save money, they can just buy our mug. they really liked my idea but the third spread needs work. i had some trouble getting the cups because starbucks wouldnt give them to me! i literally had to go steal them and run and the next day when i needed more they moved the cups away from arms reach and i had to lie and say my drink exploded in my (non existent) car and could i please have some cups, ha. anywho, it was lots of fun thinking of ways to make things out of cups.

i also got some pictures from my snowboarding trip to mount loon in new hampshire that i posted in my albums link on this home page under my user picture http://people.tribe.net/3c968f78-7395-4406-a9f6-b252f5125bb7/photos so check that out. i'm also going to be going to gunstock mountain this saturday so hopefully i'll be feeling better.

lots of other stuff happened this week but i'm too sick to remember right now so i'll leave with what happened today.

i got to go to anime boston with tiffany and 2 of her friends from CT which is a huge convention in hynes convention center. it was soooo huge. because tiffany and i are part of the anime club we got to go for free ($50 value) which lasts for 3 days. we didnt go friday but we went today and so many people were in costume it was amazing. also a band from japan came to play called the pillows which is partially famous for doing the theme song for FLCL (Fooly Cooly, awesome anime). i also got to see one of my friends works which she was selling in the artist corner and i'm really proud of her. grand old time.

tiffany left to CT to spend time with her family.
