i must be in SF!

inner and outer fog as i still am trying to wrap my head around being here. i guess because SF is a home to me in this world, being back here is terribly familiar, yet strangely distant. i've spent my first full day here with a round of thrifting up and down Valencia. scored a Boy Scout shirt complete with a ton of patches and badges for $6 at Clothes Contact (this will be a Halloween costume, should i have to attend any holiday function), and a pair of sandals to replace my last pair which fell apart just shy of the end of the summer and are held together with duct tape and staples. i had my choice of two pair of sandals, the ones which have soles made of tire tread. i put back the whitewalls, as they were very smooth on the bottom ... and i know me well enough, i'd be slipping and falling down in seconds flat. i opted for ones with a nifty narrow tread instead, and remind me of the very first pair of sandals i bought in tijuana in 1978 that lasted me about 10 years (we're talking late grade school through college!).

i didn't pick up the Technics SL-5 Direct Drive Linear turntable for $20. i'm obsessed with linear tracking turntables, but not sure i want to go through the hassle of getting it back home, despite the fucking amazing price and the audio techinca cartridge. by letting it go, i just leave more room for something better (and easier to get home!) to come along.

finished my next Queer Life News zine column, which will appear in early November. i did some shout outs to some of the cool people who were there, and reviewed two zines we picked up there. it took me a day past the deadline to finish, as i couldn't set up my laptop in an ergonomic position for me to write on the plane. it's a wacky day when i find that Southwest (which i usually fly) has more seat room than United (had to fly to keep my frequent flyer miles... which i'm soooo bad at managing).

i'm sitting in some cafe on valencia near 22nd for chai and free wireless because i started feeling out of sorts and thought a warm beverage would do me a world of good. that and writing this have sort of brought some semblance of life back into me....

Very well restrained on the Technics, boy-o! I didn't even have to threaten with the vegan luv cuffs. :P

Speaking of QLife, is the new issue out in print? I can't seem to find it anywhere on or around campus?

d'oh
there is some sort of statement on the qlife website which mentions a delay. i thought it referred to the fact that the website had been revamped and moved to mambo, but perhaps it also referred to the print version. who knows!!! at least in the on-line version, my article has the bolds done properly. hoooray for small victories.
