In the Hopi Indian tradition the Medicine Wheel also has a labyrinthine layout with seven paths ceremoniously traced out in rituals that help to heal and guide the initiates of the tribe. Along with the idea of animal spirits there was a strong belief, common to many different tribes, of the Four Great Powers contained in the medicine Wheel, depicted as a model of cosmogenesis, a mirror of the natural world, or as a guide to human development and spiritual evolution.
