Timelore & Ritual Magic

   Sat, April 19, 2008 - 6:11 AM
In this instance Time & Space are divided according to the patterns and rhythms in nature and also according to macrocosmic principles: South located at 12:00, East at 9:00, West at 3:00 and North at 6:00. Please note there are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day, totalling 1,440 minutes which when divided by 90 ( a magical number in Tantra) results in 16 mins (this being the number of petals arranged around the classic Shri yantra Mandala) that represent precisely the 16 periods of 2 hrs 40 mins ( or 160 mins). The number 1,440 divided by 480 = 3 the logarithmic division of the human gestation & infant development period (9 months/9 years/9 decades) also defines three octaves childhood, maturity and old age that precede death and transcendence. These dovetail into the symbolic aspects of Creation, Maintenance and Destruction (Brahma/Vishnu/Shiva) which as anyone knows governs the basic activities of the day, month, season, year or entire human lifetime.
However, 8 plus 16 equals 24 (2 hour ascendant periods in astrology) as well as the number of hours in a day, which when divided by two (darkness and light or Yin & Yang) equates with the 12 astrological signs of the zodiac. The number 8 is also significant in esoteric numerology (Lemnisciate) and in this sense defines the main lunar phases as in Taoist & Tarot metaphysical symbolism. Furthermore, the Triune elements (in traditional alchemy Sulphur, Salt & Quicksilver) but in Tantra of Sun (4am), Moon (8 pm), and Fire (12 noon) are found in the inverted triangle (symbolising the aspects of the 3-fold Goddess or Christianity's own Faith, Hope & Love). The equinoctial points are also delineated here in the form of a Double Axis (4:00, 8:00 am & 4:00, 8:00 pm). Therefore we may use this TIME/SPACE YANTRA as a quick reference guide to locate or define the cardinal points or to note the times that are most highly auspicious for magical ritual and ceremony, as well as for meditation, evocation, invocation, consecration and so forth. Particularly if you notice there is a 24 hour & 12 hour dial on this timelore yantra including the twilight hours, the morning, midnight, noon, and evening but you may also consult planetary hours or tattvic tides of course for comparison and fine-tuning. For this purpose also note there is solar time and lunar time as well as our own Earth Time.

After you have made a detailed study of this Yantra, you can superimpose or attribute whatever qualities, gods, goddesses and the like, personalise or embellish them to your individual system of magic. Avoid Moon void of course periods, any malefic angles and other dispositions generally considered to be ill-aspected for magical working.

In terms of Elements and Planets;
• Fire is a quality associated with Mars/Neptune,
• Water is associated with Venus/Uranus,
• Earth with Jupiter/Saturn,
• Air with Mercury/Pluto
and finally Aether with Sun/Moon.

The most auspicious times being midnight (aether), dawn (6am fire) and twilight (6 pm air). However, it is also significant that the central 5-sided pentagram is also evident in timelore indicating that the periods between 6 pm, & 8 pm (approx. 7:30 equates to water), 4 am and 6 am (5:30 equates to earth) which are also highly auspicious. The most auspicious periods are however 12 o'clock midnight as it combines the energies of the Sun & Moon and 12:00 noon or Midday which equates with the primordial Spirit (Fire) manifested on the material plane.

As already mentioned the number 9 is connected to a subtle rhythm affecting concentration spans and many other things besides. So that for example divisions by nine of the time-breath cycle (21.600) creates periods of 24 hours. You will also notice in ritual work and in other areas of life that the average human attention span or work period lasts approx.; 45 minutes, with 16 minute periods or breaks allocated somewhere in between.
