Bully cats suck

There's a feral cat in the area that keeps beating up on Gordon.* We are trying to arrange to trap it and have it fixed, but that's surprisingly hard to do when you don't have access to a car. You can rent a car and get a humane trap (hard to transport on a motorcycle even when empty) , but there is no telling how many days it will take to get the cat in the trap, so you can't just keep the rental car. Once you do get them in the trap, they often freak out and hurt themselves pretty good trying to get out, though, so you need to be able to take the cat to get fixed ASAP -- so you need to have very quick access to a car, because how many taxi drivers do you know of who will transport a spitting-mad caged feral?

But we're going to have to find a way to trap and fix that fucker asap, because we've just had to take Gordon in for his second abscess since we brought him home on Easter Sunday. The first one cost us $350. This one is on the front of his throat, and so requires general surgery. Our poor little guy...

The tab for this vet trip? $1025.

*p.s. Making him an entirely indoor cat is not an option for reasons too many and varied to go into now. But they are good reasons, and impossible to get around.

Poor Gordon! And poor you, with the abscess in your wallet. I have no idea if this would work, but would the humane trap fit in the *trunk* of a cab, if the cabbie didn't have to touch it personally? I wouldn't suggest that for long-distance transport, but maybe just to get from your place to the vet it would be okay...

I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel putting a caged cat in a trunk, but I guess there's enough air in there that it wouldn't be a bad thing. Hmm... I'll talk that over with Nick. Thanks!

Follow him around with a shotgun. A load of birdshot might dissuade the bugger.

(1) an air rifle (or even a BB gun) wouldn't leave as much damage
(2) assuming you chased the bastard off via something like #1, that would potentially be foisting the problem off on somebody else.

This is his territory, so we can't really successfully chase him off.

I just want him to stop biting. I don't mind him being around, otherwise.

"(1) an air rifle (or even a BB gun) wouldn't leave as much damage"

My point exactly. It won't bite without a head.

Ooh, ouch! Sorry to hear it!

I'm not sure how much it will help to fix him, if he's already an adult cat. You may want to call the Milo Foundation & see if they have any ideas... or are even willing to help out maybe.

Fixing the cat, even as an adult, will make his aggressiveness go way down. It's supposed to practically eliminate territoriality and fighting. No balls, no urge to fight, apparently!

I don't know what the Milo Foundation is, but I will look into it. Thanks!

do a search for trap neuter release in your town-county. if no groups show up, contact the nearest animal shelter for info or call the oakland spca (highly funded + lots of info).
good luck.
