"Musee" in New York - Audition Information
Open Call Auditions for Desert Sin's "Musee des Femmes" in New York!We are doing a pro-bono, one-night performance at the Zipper Theater in Manhattan this April with the opportunity of a future run with deferred pay.
We are looking for one male or androgynous female performer (our Ringmaster) and several female dancers to play the various characters in our production of "Musee des Femmes: Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque". Some of the characters include MataHari, Kali, Saint Joan, and BabaYaga. "Musee" is a dark, yet magical and beautiful retelling of popular female archetypes.
Qualifications:
Women must have a strong dance background (Middle Eastern not required, but the ability to learn quickly), and strong acting ability. If you have any other talents, such as singing, playing an instrument, contortionist, etc we would love to utilize this within the show as well.
The Ringmaster is not required to be a dancer, but strong acting and improv skills is a must. Preferably looks no younger than 35. Any additional talents such as playing any instruments, fire performance, magic, etc is most welcome. The Ringmaster is dark, mysterious, glamorous, domineering, both over the top and subtle, a collector/fetishist of damaged women...be creative as there is room for interpretation.
When:
Tuesday, Feb. 12 between 1-4pm w/ a possible group choreography 2nd audition from 4-5pm. Please RSVP.
Where:
Zipper Theater's downstairs studio
336 W. 37th St. (between 8 and 9 aves)
New York, NY
www.zippertheater.com
Please prepare:
Women Characters - One 3 minute piece that displays your dancing and acting ability. An additional 3 minutes will be allotted to display any additional skills.
The Ringmaster - One 3 minute piece (monologue or movement) that displays a wide-range of emotions. An additional 3 minutes will be allotted to display any additional skills.

Have costumes, Will travel
Cassandra and I are currently in Madrid and heading back to the states soon, HOWEVER, we plan to hit the traveling circuit again come spring (if we have our way). Putting the feelers out there (there, meaning the world) should anyone be able and willing to host us. We are but poor traveling dancers looking for venues and couches. Happy to perform, though with minimal costumes upon us.More later, but here´s the heads up...look out.
morocco
Our show went well in Spain (as did our workshops) and now we are currently traveling through morroco. We sailed into Tangier then spent the next day in Kenitra where my parents lived some forty years ago. We are currently in Rabat and are heading to Marrakesh today. So many beautiful people and clothing and etc etc. Truly a delight for the senses.
More later...
one down...
Cassandra and I did our Brooklyn show last night...the problem with doing variety nights is that often the producers are not used to working with dancers and don't understand the importance of HEAT in the dressing rooms. Having to dance after being in a dressing room that's about 50 degrees is not so fun...but our piece went well nonetheless. Cheers.Tonight we are exploring a 1920's club in Manhattan.

new york
Just putting the word out that I will be joining the lovely Cassandra in New York at the end of this year for an undetermined amount of time (we may also be touring Europe next year). We are working with a theatre on bringing one of our productions to the east coast. Have no fear, Desert Sin will continue to be active on the West Coast as well.
I look forward to meeting so many of the beautiful dancers I've seen at various conventions around the nation in their hometown.
More to come...
