My Profile

about me
Carla King is a San Francisco-based travel and technology writer and author of The American Borders Dispatches created in 1995, the oldest online travelogue on the Internet. Continuing the realtime adventure series, she sent missives to the Web during her 1998 journey from Beijing to the Tibetan border in The China Road Dispatches, from India in 2000, and Italy in 2001. Carla has been featured on TV and radio, in print and online magazines, and speaks on travel, technology, self-publishing, and writing.

Print publications include a guidebook to mountain biking the French Alpes-Maritimes; stories about a bicycle ride from Dakar, Senegal to Abdijan, Ivory Coast; and bicycle and motorcycle trips through Europe and Jamaica.

Carla is a member of the Wild Writing Women, a San Francisco Bay Area writing group whose self-published Stories of World Travel title attracted a New York publishing contract. The group holds wildly popular literary salons at San Francisco's Monticello Inn, and an annual writing conference each January.

When she's not writing about being on the road, Carla works as a freelance technical journalist, tech writer, and content development consultant, with an emphasis on technology and society.
