about me
May the sun bring you new energy by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night, May the rain wash away your worries. May the breeze blow new strength into your being, May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life. (Apache Blessing) I traipse around the world to learn from the best, and drag them back across the pond for events. I co-edited the first International Tribal Magazine. I make and sell Tribal Performance costumes internationally through my BellyNut Tribal bazaar. I love to dance, and perform, and have my own troupe - Bodhaia Tribal. I have a freaky (or completely sane, depending on whether you agree with me) spiritual-in-a-non-religious-sense-of-the-word outlook on what life is all about in this universe, and try *really* hard not to shoe-horn this into every conversation I have with people! Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~ Dr. Seuss All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. -- Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." ~~Anais Nin "People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering." -St. Augustine "When you get to the end of all the light you know and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly." ~ Edward Teller "There is no way to peace. Peace is the way." ~ Gandhi "I am only one, but still I am one; I cannot do everything, But still I can do something; And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." -Edward Hale

Re: ATS games?
(in ATS)
I put a *lot* of games into my classes. One of them that particularly suits my beginners class when there are also total newbies in, is my tombola game!
Put everybody into trios, and have two of them dance in normal duet formation with the th... read more discussion post on Thu, July 3, 2008 - 1:45 AM
Re: New UK ATS Website
(in Tribal UK)
Fantastic idea!
Couple of things: 1) My name doesn't have an 'h' in it. :) 2) Could you please put my name down under 'Leicestershire' as well as Cambridgeshire because I teach in both? 3) On your events page, the words 'This event is now ... read more discussion post on Wed, July 2, 2008 - 3:12 PM

I was up until 4.30am this morning, but I have finally got the new costume items up on the website! And that of course means lots of lovely pictures of Bodhaia's Louise, too! :)

Plus, there was the bonus of seeing the start of a beautiful sunrise and hearing the dawn chorus. Gorgeous and magical. On the weekend we performed at Dodo's hafla in Southam where there is a really friendly community who were very welcoming. We went with good old slow ATS, and played at some skirt in the free... read more
We had *great* fun performing at Strawberry Fair 2008 last weekend in Cambridge! The organisers asked us to be crowd entertainment, and so that's what we set about doing. It seemed to work - we did a lot of ATS, skirt improv, sword improv, palm flame (improv) and they all went well, with people of all ages and walks of life settling in to watch on bales of hay and eating ice cream. I'd like to say we did some of our choreographies well too - *shock-horror* I did say that word - but about 3...

I'm clearing out some stuff that's been boxed through two house moves, and have come across an unlabelled CD. On it are a load of photos of tribal dancers, plus some non-tribal ones too. They could have come into my possession during an event I hosted with USA teachers, or through my visits over to the USA.

From what I can gather, they were either taken by somebody who has travelled to the USA from the UK to visit an old school friend, or a USA person travelling to England - it's a littl... read more
Yes I can finally *get online*! At last, things are getting booked and organised, starting with *very* laid back, random performances at Strawberry Fair in Cambridge this Saturday (Cross your fingers for the weather for us!), a party event in the evening in a BARN (well, we do insist on saying we like nature...), followed by a booking at Create-Recreate-Celebrate in Chesterton on Sunday. Phew!

Everybody nagged, and I caved. By SO MANY requests, it will be a *repeat* of the last workshop on Improvisational Tribal Skirt: How to incorporate the skirt into the ATS format, and the breakdown and drilling of three or four original combos that are used by Bodhaia Tribal. Suitable for improvers/intermediates/advanced. Not recommended for complete beginners. It incorporates a lot of spins, layered movements, and fast counted movements (hence the request for a rev... read more
