How did your pet do when you brought home your new baby?
Sat, January 12, 2008 - 10:06 AMThe King of Town
Our cat is like The King of Town
If he only had a crown
A scepter and a gown
He surely would be king
What will happen then
When a human child is born within
The halls of his domain?
Will this cause him pain?
No longer will he reign
We fear
He’ll even start to die
No longer sparks of happiness
But tears of grief will fill his eye
For her majesty’s arrival home
Entails the abdicated throne
And all the glory once his own
Summarily gone for good

Usually very curious and often needy. He will do fine and will most likely bond w/ her. If he is a playful kitty, you might want to watch him so that he doesn't bat at her hands or something trying to play. I've noticed that most well loved animals know when something is a baby AND part of the family. When I brought my baby chicken home my kitty, Loki, just watched it curiously, but never tried to attack.

when destiny was born, i had a dog, gandolf, who was part wolf. initially, i was a little worried as he was a bit tempermental but once we brought her home, gandolf transformed and was so super sweet, watching over her while she slept in the bassinnet. if she woke up, he would run into whichever room i was in, ears perked forward, whimpering and restlessly picking up each of his paws as if to say, "it's awake! it's moving! do something!" he was good with her, very curious but also protective.
after moving out of that house, i had roommates with 2 other dogs - one was a huge full-blooded timberland wolf, geronimo (literally - a small horse), and the other was a malamut, cruiser. when geronimo and gandolf would run around the yard and get too close to destiny's stroller, cruiser would lean in and put himself in between destiny and the other dogs. i even have a picture of cruiser with his paw up very protectively on her stroller as if to say, "she's mine". sometimes i really miss those dogs........ so don't worry jen - T might have a period of adjustment but as it's been said, he will just KNOW that the baby is a part of the family now and he'll get used to it. however, don't let him into the nursery while the baby sleeps -- you don't want him to jump into the crib..... |
