Here at the frontier,
There are falling leaves.

Although my neighbors
Are all barbarians,

And you, you are one
Thousand miles away,

There are always two
Cups at my table.

The world is suddenly a much poorer place.

so sorry
I know there's nothing I can say that will actually bring much in the way of comfort during this time, but know that i'm always available to you for talking, hanging out, offering shoulders, and general HehHeanh-ing. I love you.

Not long ago, my father died. Since then, I've been finding more and more pieces of him within me - his words, gestures, and way of thinking seem to pop up all the time in my mind. The physical body is gone, but the person is still alive and well within you - albeit a bit diluted... Our ancestors live on within us.

Wow, what a great man he must have been. A fitting tribute of a beautiful poem. Accept a loving virtual hug from Portland, OR. I send you a special blessing on the wind tonight.

Wow, what a great looking guy. I can definitely see the family resemblance.

He's made his amazing transition into another life and I'm certain that one beautiful day, you will find him again.

I grew up Roman Catholic (the Irish flavor) and although I have pretty soundly rejected just about everything about it, there are a couple things that stuck. One is The Litany of the Saints. It's basically a call-and-response Gregorian chant, that calls upon the saints by name to ask for a blessing. It seems to me it's a fundamental human response, to honor and call upon the ancestors.

I hope this transition isn't too painful for you, and Dewey Maltese can take his place of honor in your own Litany of Saints.

Omnes sancti Angeli et Archangeli,
Omnes sancti beatorum Spirituum ordines,
intercedite pro nobis
Dewey Maltese, ora pro nobis

Sorry for your loss :(
Anna - can't believe it. He was a great man. My memories of him, although from long ago, are of a man who was intelligent, kind hearted, loving person. I spent two weeks with him and your grandmother when I was 11 and cherish the memories. Please pass along my condolences to the entire Maltese / Schwartz family. By the way we are related. Your grandmother, Betty (my Great Aunt) was the sister of my Grandfather Ed Schwartz. Not sure which of Betty’s daughters is your mother. I've kept in touch with Christy - is she mom or aunt? Love to chat sometime. Tony Bucci
