My Blog

After an interesting month in Buenos Aires, I am happy to be back in the Bay Area, ready to pick up where I left off on a number of exciting projects. I'd like to use this blog, among other bully pulpits, to see if I can corral extra support in some areas where I don't have as strong a background.

First, I am so excited to be returning to work on my community-based documentary film project looking at the concerns of gay Latino immigrants. The film, tentatively titled Yo Soy Lo Que Soy, i... read more

Greetings All,

Well, it´s been a whirlwind few weeks. After three years of toiling away in the salt mines of graduate school, I finally received my Masters in Public Health! Woohoo! I am so grateful to have had the wonderful support so many friends, my parents and amazing -ex, Jean.

Graduation also marked an important milestone in the development of my second film, Yo Soy Lo Que Soy, with two important "community feedback" screenings. One took place in San Jose, in association with... read more

about me
I only recently came back to Tribe, after I had an initial flurry of activity about a year ago. Since I started checking the site out again in the past few weeks, I am reminded of what I found so cool about this site. The people! So many cool, alt creative types! I know it's an international site now with users all over, but I still think Tribe has a very San Fran vibe, which is a great thing, in my book! So what about me? Well, I wear many hats: health educator, filmmaker, yoga student, community advocate, leatherman, artist... among others. However, my favorite roles have always been the ones that a strong connection to the heart: son, brother, friend and lover. I love spending quality time with friends and lovers. I am thrilled when a come across people who are gifted in the art of lively conversation. I also have a passion for community. Living in a major metropolitan area, can sometimes be an alientating, isolating experience. I think it is the anonymity that actually draws many of us here from redneck town and small-minded communities across the South and Midwest. Many of us arrive, just looking for a little space to be ourselves. In time, though, I believe we all need to reach out and being the process of creating community. And so this process of creating, and re-creating community is a really powerful idea, for me. I love working together to make SF live up to its reputation as the Best Place on Earth. For me that means focusing on the community that I know best here, the LGBT community, and particularly the queer men's community. I believe that there is more to our lives as queer men than drugs, alcohol, sex and partying. Not that there is anything wrong with any of those things... in moderation. A big part of the problem, though, is the huge amount of money poured into advertising that tells us that drugs, alcohol and partying ARE our life. I think we can aim higher. If you do too, please drop me a line!
