<div>I forgot to share a truly odd thing that happened at work the other day.

Imagine for a moment that an ice cream truck was coming down the street and stopped at your place of business and the driver left the truck to entice you to buy his wares.

NOW, replace the the ice cream with meat.

Now, imagine my surprise when the driver of said "meat truck" stopped and came into the shop enticing us to buy meat from off of her truck!

Just for the sheer wierdness of the situation and because I couldn't resist, I had the driver show us her meat. giggle.

As it happens, we bought some. It was flash frozen and vacuum sealed, so I figured what the heck? How often am I going to get to buy meat from the meat lady? (When I say that, in the background of my head I hear ice cream from the ice cream man..shudder.)

Sooooooo..........now I have an burning question rattling around in my head.

We all know what strange, twisted and broken music ice cream trucks play. So tell me, just what kind of music does a meat truck play????

    </a>
<div>It was a dark and stormy night......

Oh wait, I've given it away.

It all started a bit later than we wanted it to. We left on Saturday morning arriving at the faire around 2pm. One of the big differences about this faire is that the patrons can camp, which made Greg and myself quite happy considering how long it took us to get there. However, the lack of organization threw us both for a spin. Neither one of us are used to chaos at a camping event. After driving and walking about for a bit, we found a spot to call home and we proceeded to set up residence. As soon as that was done, we enjoyed what little faire was left in the day as “turkeys” (translation: (slang) meaning patrons/audience members) ie, we weren't in “costume.”

The front gate were the walls of a castle. Huge....like Disneyland, huge. All the structures are permanent and for the most part, they are uniquely creative in their design. The grounds are a dream. Trees, gardens, beautiful benches, wide open and massive. The yards and yards of burlap I'd expect to see, weren't there. Vines created shade for audience members. There was not a singular area for food. Instead, there were many different sections: Italian, Greek, German, English, all with the appropriate foods in those areas. However, I must sadly report that I only found one ale stand that had cider and not very good cider at that. And the beer was the nasty American see through stuff. Bleh.

We only saw a couple of stage shows, being that we were lazily taking in the whole of our surroundings. The faire closes after dark when there is a huge fireworks show. Who'd-a-thunk you could see fireworks at a Renaissance faire?!?! I was feeling a bit toasty because I was sipping Athole Brose from my flask. On the way back to our tent to get warmer clothes we stopped and listened to Tartanic play for an impromptu “ale jam” outside the front gate.

It was a dark and stormy night or at least that's how it ended up so, it was a good thing that we bundled up and brought an umbrella because it started to rain on the way to meeting up with a co-worker at the bonfire in the parking lot. We hung out with her until her girlfriend called to say that their tent had flooded. Yuk! So, we walked her back to her tent and we started our journey back to our tent knowing that they could stay with another friend for the night. Meanwhile, it had gone from sprinkles to the sky opening up and it was a very cold, wet and looooong walk back to our tent and since our tent was new, we were looking forward to a dry warm bed. WRONG! Water had already begun to puddle on the floor of the tent, drawing ever closer to the rugs and futon that made up our warm, dry bed. We, however, had no where else to go and my little car is just not big enough to sleep in without experiencing a major body ache by morning. So we had a long and miserable night as our futon turned into a sponge that was soaking up water on either side.

When we woke up the next wet, cold and miserable morning, we packed up and got into the only clothing we had left that was dry, our costuming, and went into faire to begin a much needed hot chocolate “pub crawl.” Being dry and imbibing on hot chocolate all day made the day quite bearable!

I must say that the one thing missing from this faire was that there were no actors in the streets. The only time you saw costumed performers were if you went to a stage show. Even though, my period clothing feels like regular clothing to me rather than a costume, it still felt oddly strange to be the only people in authentic period clothing roaming the streets. It was painfully noticeable just how empty a faire can feel without the personal interaction that we are both used to witnessing and participating in from our past experiences at various re-enactments.

Silly me, I make it sound like there was no one in costume, when in fact there were lots of fairies, barbarians and 3 Jack Sparrows. I know because Greg saw all 3 first and I got punched in the arm each time. Oh WHY did I tell him about that dumb game?!?! Oh Oh Oh WAIT, I almost forgot to mention the big beer bellied centaur!! His costume was great. It was very creative! His back legs were pulled behind him on hidden squeaky wheels kinda like he got paralyzed in a head on collision with another centaur. hee-hee-hee!!

So, there you go. That's what happened at TRF (Texas Renaissance Festival). All in all we are glad we went. Despite the long drive and the wet weather, we had a good time. </div>

<div>really.....some things are not that believable...at least I do not WANT them to be that believable.

We were getting ready to go to Texas Ren Faire this weekend and I wanted to fill my flask with something yummy and intoxicating.

Being from California, I feel that that should be a simple task to accomplish. However, it is a far cry from simple being a Californian in Texas.

After realizing that alcohol isn't sold in the grocery store, we asked a few people who worked there as to where we could find a store that does sell alcohol.

We felt like we were speaking in a different language. No one around us knew what we were talking about. Finally, someone said “liquor?” in a sheepish sort of way, as if she had just said something dirty. Then, one of the men who worked there had overheard our conversation. And said, “Denton, (the town I am currently residing in) doesn't sell hard alcohol. Y'all will have to go to Lewisville (that's about 2 towns away) in order to get THAT sort of thing.”

I cannot tell you the effort it took to NOT scream out, “What is wrong with you people?! I mean really, y'all sell beer and wine in this establishment. Okay, so that only means that it takes that much more money and time to get just as plastered as if you had a couple of shots of hard alcohol. Isn't that like saying you are just a little bit pregnant?!” ARRRRGHHHH!

Walking out into the parking lot, I suddenly felt like we just mistook a nunnery for a brothel which led to fits of laughter...albeit, a little hysterical in a nervous and completely out of our element sort of way........but laughter none the less........</div>

<div>Thanks to my friend, Patty, I had a fun yet uneventful drive out to Texas. We had one little rain cloud hover over us for about 10 minutes and that’s it. We didn’t want to drive straight through so we spent the night in Albuquerque. We arrived in Denton on Wednesday night just in time for a delicious dinner of eggplant parmesan prepared by Greg in anticipation of our arrival. The next day, I sent Greg off to work, leaving Patty and me to explore Denton. We found a small but fantastic candy store from which the two of us purchased a sinful amount of chocolate. GRIN!!! Greg just shook his head at that and then we all proceeded to get tummy aches from eating chocolate. The following morning Greg took the day off from work and he and I drove Patty down to Austin to visit another California ex-patriot friend. We spent the night at the friend’ s house and when we woke we left Patty in her other friend’s care and Greg and I explored Austin for a couple of hours before driving back up to Denton. There wasn’t enough time to even put a dent in seeing that city. But, we are looking forward to having the time to explore Austin some more….perhaps at Halloween.

I have been hired to fulfill some jewelry orders at the same shop that Greg works at. I am working as a real live professional jeweler. It’s a bit intimidating because the projects are a little beyond my experience level. But, I have confidence in my ability to pick things up quickly.

Oh yeah, and the moving company I hired still hasn’t delivered my things. They apologized to me and told me that the truck with my belongings hadn’t even left California yet. They should be delivered to me here in Texas in 3-4 days. Sigh.

Anyways that is it for now……happy, getting paid to do art, and snuggling with the one I love.

<div>Well....this is it. My last night (for now) in Los Angeles...in California. To tell you the truth, it is strange to even think those words as I am typing them out. What is a California girl , like me, doing going off to Texas? I have always had one foot in the mountains and one foot in the ocean, neither of which does Texas have, at least to my knowledge. I will tell you why. I am following my heart. And the treasure I wish to hold again is awaiting my presence. So, there. Short and sweet. I am off to my adventure and it starts tomorrow morning. Just hope I can sleep. TTFN!!!!!</div>

<div>it’s the end of 3-day and I have no tales to tell for there were no adventures. Not a single one.

.....other than finishing a 1.5 liter bottle of wine...

Oh wait! I take that back.

Not the wine, silly!

I actually worked on my mask that I was commissioned to create! It’s not finished but, it feels good to see real progress when before there was none. Now if only I had a digital camera (a cheapy one would suffice) so that I could take progress pictures. Then, you too would see what I am talking about. Alas, I don’t have one so please do not hold your breath. I wouldn’t want to be the cause of any blue tinges in those beautiful lips of yours.

<div>this feeling inside....listening to music that inspires the soul and partaking of the nectar of Bacchus.

Dost thou know that the greatest lesson to be learned is just to love and to be loved in return?

(Bohemian perhaps, but cheesy nonetheless...... I know. But it compliments the wine.)

Honestly, I do sometimes wonder if people can truly appreciate that lesson or if they go through life feeling that they simply don’t deserve to be loved. In that lesson, I tend to think that it is easier to love. The hardest part is allowing yourself to be loved in return. Typically, it’s easier to trust yourself than another person no matter how much you care for them. After all, there are all those nasty little questions that prey on that part of your vulnerable self that is insecure: Do they really care? Do they have good intentions? Are they really going to be around to encourage and support you no matter what? Are they going to be individuals and live up to their own potential and yet still want you in their lives to share in their growth and all that that means?

Hmmm....to be loved in return....perhaps that is the greatest lesson of all.............

So there you go.

That’s what the lot of you get when I drink a couple of glasses of wine and I watch Moulin Rouge (yet again) when I am emotionally exhausted............

(For those of you who know and/or care, Ronnie came home from the hospital today. Figuratively speaking, he is not out of the woods, but he is no longer in a deep dark thick forest of a jungle.)

Who'd a thunk...

<div>that my nose would be hankerin' for a bit o'playa or that my hair was starting to feel a little too soft and silky for it's own good or that my car would be secretly pleading with me to be coated in that fine powdery essence that screams to the world that it's been on an adventure?

Who'd a thunk that at this time of the year I would be unable to satisfy those dirty little urges?

Who'd a thunk that I would not be searching out my playa encrusted rebar to stake my virgin tent to the ground that resonates with the heartbeat of Black Rock City? That in a week's time, I would not be sustaning myself by eating peanut butter and jelly burritos and sharing plates with complete "strangers" at IHOP in the mornings.....

Who'd a thunk?

......not me.

and yet.....here I am in the process of selling my Burning Man tickets.

For those of you who are lucky enough to still be going, please have a pancake for me, gift someone with something tasty for me, and take a ride out on the playa for me.

BUT, THIS IS YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MISSION OF ALL:
When you get back, describe to me the piece of artwork that impressed you the most and why it touched your soul.

I shall whistfully await your return to hear your answer.

<div>Okay, being that I've never done this before let me provide you with a word of warning:

Steele yourself and please remember to keep all limbs safely within the rickety coracle of my cranium at all times while (barely) floating along my personal stream of consciousness.

let me state the following:

doctors suck. hospitals suck. and no, I am not the one in the hospital so please calm any nerves you may have left after dealing with the cruel world about you.

apartment owners suck. and yes, I am the one in the apartment so please frazzle yourself to every height imaginable. grrrr. the owners of my building apparently want to sell the building and wish to inspect every unit....grr.....nothing like a tornado of cleaning products and useless papers swirling about a much chaotic apartment.

art. heh-heh ....you thought that maybe I was going to say "art sucks"?? nah......wouldn't do that....BUT.... having your muse seduce you with pokes and teases while not being able to actually complete or barely even get started is TORTUROUS!

Chocolate.....however......... definitely does NOT suck. the succulent lusciousness of it is....mmmmm....sigh.....to think that I was once addicted to coffee.....how I could have ever chosen that tiny little bitter bean over the intoxicating bean of the cacao is quite beyond me. thankx to you may or may not know who *wink* ....self control had never before included my thoughts straying too often to that creamy and lickable confection....mmmm....

hee-hee....oh how the mind wanders.......</div>
