So after damn near frying my car's engine from a badly leaking radiator hose, I had little option but to take it to the nearest autobody shop. I somehow failed to notice the 2-foot high stenciled letters on the side of the garage proclaiming "JESUS SAVES! HE IS COMING! HE IS THE LIGHT!".... That might have better prepared me for my experience.
While waiting on my repairs, the owner comes over to me and BEGINS. I'll just give snippets of actual things he said, because it sums it up well enough:
"You're American? No, you must be mixed with something.. maybe Scottish?"
"May I see your hair? You know, I never saw black people before coming to this country, you fascinate me."
"I don't like black people."
"I am Italian and born-again. Do you know about Jesus? What, you say you're spiritual but you're not Christian? Doesn't matter, Jesus is the only way."
"God has guided the best people, like Columbus. A little boy came up to him and said that Jesus had told him to find the New World, and his faith guided the way."
"Do you know why the Indians are gone? In the night, they would attack Columbus' men, so they had no choice but to drive them out, which is why they're now all in Canada."
"No, Native Americans did NOT have any culture, or religion, or spirituality, or crops, or clothes. Museum artifacts? Written documentation? No, thats all incorrect. Jesus."

Well, my car was eventually miraculously fixed, and not a moment too soon, as my born-again mechanic had finally had enough of my rebuttals, as I had had enough of his.... everything.
