I get six (okay, well five now,) blessed weeks off. I have seen people so incredibly sick, but I don't want to write about sickness- if you want to read about those adventures, go to my other blog (riveracnp dot com). Between two 12 hour shifts back to back (thurs/fri), with a salt-and-pepper of 12 hour shifts on Tuesdays, and school full time on Mon/Wed, I'm feeling a little insane. I have been neglecting tribe, but I've been having amazing experiences with people who need medical care and a little bit of love. Nursing is love. Every day, there's a hell of a lot of love. I had to move hell and high water and a final (omg did that take a hell of a lot of effort) BUT I will be Burning. Yay! I needs it. Badly. Sorry I've been out of touch. Just wow. UCSF has started in full swing for me, and every day I am amazed at what we're learning. To update anyone, this program is the usual 2 to 2.5 year RN program, condensed into 1 year, and then half the class goes straight through to a Master's (Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist) while the other half takes a step-out year, works as an RN, and then goes back into the Master's portion. I'm in the latter category, as I'm specializing in Acute Care/trauma, so I am re... read more
