phew, soooo tired, so so tired but happy! in the last few weeks we have : - had a ball at the cool magic themed hafla put on by Karen A, a great nite, the ekstasis gals did a grand job and the costumes were ab fab (unfortunately due to time constraints i didn't actually take to opportunity to dress up - this would have to be a first!!!) - went to Amy's farewell (BOOOHOOOOOOOOO) which was a mad and fun event indeed! - got a new puppy (see gallery) to keep our overly energetic and crazy dog company - went to sunny brisvagas for feast of the senses (put on by Dee and the tribal blossoms gals) what a HUGE and FUN weeekend. saw some stunning performances, experienced lots of tribal love and attended some workshops that certainly have contributed to the things i want to practice and be an influence on the next few pieces too, met some lovely lovely new pals and ate too much cake! anyhow now for some vegging out in front of the teev and reacquainting myself with the pets and our couch!

well last nites free club cario hafla was lots of fun, with the casual atmos and varied performances along with some great company making for a lovely evening. personal highlights for me were the live drumming (thanks Ray!), _lots_ of shiny swords and a lovely impromptu improv fusionpeice by Cat(herine). also looking forward to the costume comp at the next hafla, better get thinking and ? sewing... TTFN

well things have lowed down (slightly) and we actually have a weekend 'off' this weekend, just horsing around, housework, gardening, brunch, dinner, cuban dance hall and dog walking on the calander! wednesday nights continue to be lots of fun, with most people really getting into the swing of things. it's soooo much fun to have a chorus line and more than 2 of us zilling!! Hil would be so proud! we are really looking forawrd to haveing an informal tribal jam at Toro's on the 18th, invite above, hopefully with a few tribalgals from around the state as well as our mob. for a dance and a meal, please contact ange or i to get details if you want to tag along :) then ange and i will rework an old cheoro for a fire fundraiser at the xmas hills raspberry farm in may, there's lots of interesting and talented people on the line up for this night, and the food there is totally scrummie, we will post the details soon. didn't get enough people to run the intro to tribal course thro adult ed, mite have to look at another way of doing a taster/basic skills thing.... perhaps a few workshops or something (suggestions welcome) also didn't get enough ppl RSVP for the club cario sewing day which was supposed to be today, oh well. i guess the colder weather has triggered the tassie 'don't do anything over winter' mind set... this di mean i got to sleep in tho :) anyhow better get back out into the garden. well in the last few weeks: hippie fundraiser cabaret finished flamenco fusion choreo had a ball the wednesday night jams, lots of new faces :) driven to hobart twice a wedding sewed 3 (yes 3) huge circles skirts with cute spanish ruffles dusted off our burlesque peice (part) of Paulette's workshop circus fest club cario meeting bought foot undies ah and it might not end any time soon... this weekend is spanish theme night at Hobnobs resturant westbury st patricks day festival international harmony day dinner engagement party more wednesday night practices sewing new lap laps oh and work, horses, dog, housework.... sleep (sometimes) anyhow enjoy your weekend! TTFN :)

well we got to be pirates on saturday which was fun (well except for when i dropped my sword to the floor with an almighty CLANG!!! well that is another year of fun and dancing nearly over.... and phew, what a busy one it has been. last night's CC xmas hafla was lots of fun, with both beauty and bloopers galore! LOL! Nice to see so many faces and performers despite the icy weather. now all i have to do is hang in for1 more week of work ad then holidays!! Yay! sleeping, resting, socialising, dancing, sewing, riding, reading and pottering.... can't wait! wishing all a merry christmas and a happy new year! XXX

Med Fest

well tired and sore but generally happy after the Tas Med Fest. Lots of dancing fun including: - some fantastic performances by the festival teachers and a great opportunity to wear red and black as well as some less familar outfits (in the fashion show) - 3 of Mel's workshops covering topics such as how to be gooey, how to be dizzy and how to be an arachnid... yep a spider dance! - how to be cheeky and how to do a proper 'bum feel' in the burlesque workshop with melissa - popping some tribal cherries in a (fairly) successful first big group Ekstasis performance Other highlights include watching the incredulous face Mel pulled when we went to the chocolate shop at Grindalwald and being asked if it was me teaching the Burlesque w'shop (i think it was the stripey stockings!) LOL) Oh well time for a looong sleep TTFN

a few weeks before the xmas madness descends on us completely.... thankfully there are a few dancing thangs planned (none too stressful) and then 3 weeks of holidays! Yay! Ekstasis are doing a piece on the sat night of the Med Fest , i'll get to try out my shiney new silverArabesque zills, they are louder than the ones i recently lost so unfortunately u will be able to hear my mistakes even more! Then there is the xmas hafla in December and possibly a quick demo at the Tasdance Student Soiree also in early December. And of course there will also be lots of workshop goodness at Med Fest next weekend too! Looking forward to the burlesque and Mel's stuff! Oh and hoping that we can find someone to love the many many unusued cotume pieces Ange and I have culled from our collection...

well aside from having a slack nite planned for wednesday (eating rather than practice in honor of karen's birthday) Ange and i are hard at it this week preparing for the weekend as we have a gig on both friday and saturday to two completely different crowds! one is the rotary cocktail party to open the deloraine craft fair (which would you know is the biggest fair of it's kind in australia - daggy but true) and the other is for the GLBTI pride week halloween ball! LOL - talk about versitile!! Anyhow i see ange is clearing the lounge room in prep for yet another set of run thro's.... sigh.... groan.... i just hope that my body (especially my knees hold out long enough to make it to sunday without major incident!) BTW congrats to Karen for doing a sterling job on sat nite for the 'dancing out' crowd - despite my major stuff up direction wise in the choero!! Sorry!! I'd encourage anyonewho's keen on dancing to attend at least one of these nights, espcially if you are into swing, tango, salsa or any of the couple dances... great group of peeps. TTFN K

well HF gig last weeeknd went well, crowd seemed pleased and despite a brief monment of 'blank brain' during the first choreo on my part no major hicups with the set. I really enjoyed the rest of the night tho my feet hurt horribly the next morning and 31 degrees is too hot to be hungover!! LOL quiet weekend this week, which is lucky as Ange is down with a yucky flu then a gig at a local resturant next weekend for one of their themed night and a few other things booked in for the following weeks. wednesday night tribal get togethers are going well, great to have a few other ppl zilling and to even get a small chorus line and some improv happening! wooot indeed! also working on few choeros including one of Devi's great spanish feeling peices. we may even debut the girls sometime soon.... anyhow better get outside and do some chores before it rains again. TTFN

well after recovering from TTF (which took a few days) we had to get ready for a gig last nite - with fire, so despite many misgivings earlier in the day about the weather and possible wind/rain/both the night ended up being clear and calm and the fire piece went well....until the music man made a mistake and our carefully organised burnt CD got stopped 1/3 of the way through!!! Arrgh!!!!!! so after running around and giving him some orignial CDs with MUCH more explicit instructions about whent to start/stop the tracks we muddled on. Thankfully the crowd was pretty forgiving and it all seemed to go down well. LOL. also finished my outfit for HF and we did a dress rehearsal, all very saucy! - i love our big feather boas but every time we practice with them they shed feathers all over the floor so we have to vaccum afterwards. well that's it for now :) k

well last weekend's TTF was soo many things over the course of the weekend: exhusting, stressful, beautiful, inspiring, nausiating, teary, awe inspiring, fun, joyous, colourful,fantastic, too long, too short, educational, exciting and all round a damn fine time! i would strongly recomend going along to any bellydancer, even if you're not a complete tribal nut - there is something there for every taste. just make sure you pack plenty of sugar loaded foods and some deep heat!! cheers K

well i guess the title says it all! the workshops, the hafla, the company all fabulous! Thanks to all who helped out over the weekend's events and especially to Devi for being so georgeous! Patsy also ensured that my little cache of $$ was raided to buy tribal goodies and a fab skirt :) I really really really enjoyed Devi's performance and the sunday arvo workshop (despite being dead tired) i loved the skirt and spanish moves tho my feet were burning and my head was wonky after the end of all those spins! now all we have to do is practice!! lots! anyhow hope everyone else enjoyed as well, promise more photos soon cheers Kat

Last nite's (southern hemisphere) halloween hafla was a blast - wonderful to see soooo many faces and sooo many great costumes! I really enjoyed the whole nite and was sooo very wow'ed by Mel's two performances! Breath taking! Thank you to Zahira and her team for putting on this great evening. The only down side is that the fake blood i used appears to have left a quite visible stain... uh oh.... Then there was the workshop today (which after a mix up with my times and some desperate rearranging on my part i managed to get to only a little late!) with Mel teaching a sword choero, she makes it all look so effortless and graceful - perhaps with enough practice i can look like that too one day.... well this weekend altho busy was also cursed! cursed w musical malfunctions of a amazing vareity and annoyance!! CD's not reading, CD's skipping, CD's stalling, CD's breakdancing..... i wished we had a good old fashioned tape! At least unlike last nite today we did have spare music (last nite Ange had to drive back home to get spare music - thankfully it was only a 20 min round trip - i think that its the first time ever that we had left with no back up music, not something we will do again!!) Anyway the highlight of the weekend was the brush with a wonderful reptilian friend called Adonis. Made us all smile but esp Ange!

i am currently slothing around drinking tea and wathing dvds (including bellydance ones of course) cos it's easter and i dont have to be at work YAY! currently thinking of what to do for this 1940's themed gig coming up in a month or so, want something so go a long with it - thinking burlesque-y?? not sure... we've also got a couple of 'good cause' freebies which we will do sword and improv for (more upbeat folky type affairs) then there is Karen A's halloweeen halfa soon too - thinking zombie's or vampires for that of course! Can't let an opportunity to dress up pass me by!! ah when i see this list i think i should stop slothing and start practicing and costume making etc!! Eeek! hope you have all had a wonderful break over easter and that u all return to your daily endeavours with renewed vigour. We just started up our adult ed classes again, this time i am flying solo (eeek) as Ange is teaching in Deloraine and I am holding classes in Launceston. Had a good roll up to session one, with a wide range of skills which is always challenge to teach, hope i didnt scare too many ppl off coming back or bore anyone to tears! As always there were a few comments about sore shoulders/arms but i guess that is part of the nature of tribal!! Aside from that and a bit of frustration trying to find apropriate speed music (i really should have been more organised and burnt that class mix like i planned!) all seemed to go well. ATM it's pretty quiet on the performance front but that means we can spend a bit more time with our ponies and puppy :) although we do have the Club Cairo Hafla at Toro's on the 15th (see you all there?)

well it's been a busy week with lots of outdoor dancing action: wednesday night we dropped into the deloraine drumming circle and had some fun in Maggie's backyard with all the wonderful drumming, flute, tin whistle, dig playing and singing folk. Aside from a few 'uneven ground' issues with the spins all was fabulous! friday left work early to head out to the forest festival at jackie's marsh and did a 'filler set' between bands, again the uneven ground was bit tricky but we managed to not fall over and everyone seemed complimentary sat arvo was a fundraiser for working it out and Karen F joined us for a set on the hot and slightly slippery (oiled cedar) deck, all went well. Also got to see Anne Marie and her crew and give some basic beginners tips to a few of the interested audience members :) and last but on least sat night was dancing around a bon fire to such great tracks as 'oh yeah' by yellow and 'kick sart my heart' by motley crue and nearly dying laughing at the boys break dancing comp at Amy's 80's party - i hope that the clean up wasnt too awful for her and Dan this morning!!
