Sojourners

Their deflated flesh
soaked in sweat and blood
and scorched by apocalyptic flames
the spent but grateful souls
have romance at their molten cores.
In the blackness they hear
the lonely ping of a pulsing engine...
two faint lights appear
close together...growing brighter.
Each resolve into
clusters of light,
soon revealed to be
falling toward them
