Words, words, words

How calmly does the olive branch
Observe the sky begin to blanch
Without a cry, without a prayer
With no betrayal of despair

Some time while light obscures the tree
The zenith of its life will be
Gone past forever
And from thence
A second history will commence

A chronicle no longer gold
A bargaining with mist and mold
And finally the broken stem
The plummeting to earth, and then

And intercourse not well designed
For beings of a golden kind
Whose native green must arch above
The earth's obscene corrupting love

And still the ripe fruit and the branch
Observe the sky begin to blanch
Without a cry, without a prayer
With no betrayal of despair

Oh courage! Could you not as well
Select a second place to dwell
Not only in that golden tree
But in the frightened heart of me

These are my thoughts which are mine

Every media outlet is reporting that the bill for the bailout of the auto industry failed.

No it didn't.

The Senate breaks down to 52 in favor, 35 against. That's a win.

Only our worthless jelly-spined Democratic "leadership", a term I could not use more loosely, won't actually hold a vote, because they don't have the three-fifths majority for a cloture vote if the Republicans filibuster, which they don't have to do because HARRY REID THAT GUTLESS SACK OF PUS WON'T HOLD THE DAMN V... read more

Finally tonight as promised, a Special Comment on the passage, last week, of Proposition Eight in California, which rescinded the right of same-sex couples to marry, and tilted the balance on this issue, from coast to coast.

Some parameters, as preface. This isn't about yelling, and this isn't about politics, and this isn't really just about Prop-8. And I don't have a personal investment in this: I'm not gay, I had to strain to think of one member of even my very extended family w... read more

It is wrong for the elected representatives of the people in the legislative branch of the government to cede their constitutional authority to the executive branch, no matter who the executive may be.

The separation of powers is integral to the health of the republic; Congress' abrogation of its own legitimate role is as much to blame for the disgraces of our nation over the last eight years as any other single factor.

Exchanging one autarch for another will not restore the integrity... read more

Demise of Same-Sex Weddings Disheartens Businesses
By JESSE McKINLEY

SAN FRANCISCO — A week before Election Day, Christopher Burnett’s floral shop filled an order for one of the many same-sex weddings he has worked in the last five months: eight corsages, a dozen boutonnieres and two bouquets for the two brides, each with three dozen roses.

Now, Mr. Burnett said, since Tuesday’s voter approval of Proposition 8, which amended the state’s Constitution to recognize onl... read more

The polls here in California are open for another 30 minutes; as long as you are in line by 8:00 you *will* get to vote. I know the presidential election is looking positive at this point, but there are still numerous important state races, especially Proposition 8, which is looking way too close.

If you haven't voted yet, please go vote!

Do it for the puppy.
