about me
I find that I remember dance steps more clearly if I have to understand them verbally. I'm not a naturally adept dancer. I have to work very hard to just muddle through. But I've learned to enjoy the process of learning and I'm continually trying to figure out ways to help my muscles, and my brain, remember what it is my body is supposed to be doing at any given point in time while I'm dancing. So I started to journal my dance notes as part of my New Year's 2008 resolution to keep better track of my classes in hope of retaining more of what I learn and being able to present that information more clearly bodily in my dance practice.
I take between 5 and 7 dance classes a week, depending on whether or not I have workshops or pick-up classes. On Mondays I have beginning ATS with Kathy Stahlman at Tribal Moon in Campbell, I then make a mad dash to Capitola in less than 30 minutes to take a beginning performance skills class from Sese. On Tuesdays I take a level 2 Tribal fusion class from Palika at Heavy Hips, I also take her Level 2 class on Saturday mornings. Wednesdays I flail through an Intermediate fusion class with Crystal Silmi, Thursday I have another class with Sese, Core level 2 (Sese is the teacher I learn Egyptian style from). I am considering adding on a Persian class taught by members of Ballet Afsaneh in San Jose on Sundays, but I'm waffling a bit. Any thoughts? Besides the basic forms I already take I'm interested in and have taken workshops in several Indian dance forms as well.
