Last night was the American Music Awards. The Eurythmics are re-united and there was the Divine Miss Annie Lennox in her signature british tailored men's suit and tie, singing "Sweet Dreams", backed by the ever dool Dave Stewart.........and WHO doesn't remember the first time you saw Annie pounding on that desk on MTV in their first Music Video?
Anyway, ever since the very first time I ever saw Katherine perform (with Subee Djinn) there was something mesmerising about watching her dance. She just doesn't give a shit about what anyone else thinks because SHE is having a kick-ass time doing it! And she DOES it so very well! Being her student, attempting to mimic her moves, I realised quite profoundly that some of us CAN move that way, and other of us can only try.
It all came flooding back to me last night, watching Ms. Lennox, the time I saw them perform at the Hollywood Bowl and Annie strutted up the aisles of the Hollywood Bowl, amongst the audience without so much as one bouncer to shield her from loonies......and she was wearing only a rust colored BRA!!!! Oh yes, she came amongst the people, microphone in hand, prancing up the rows of ecstatic fans in her fucking bra! That night she became a Goddess to me!
Katherine possesses that ephemeral something and I am glad and fortunate to have been her student in this lifetime.

Ya know...there are just some people you meet in a crowd, play like kindergarteners and know you'll do it again soon. Katherine was/is one of my favorite experiences this year @ BRC. I hope she goes back 'cause I wanna play in that big ol' sandbox again!!!
