The city of Minneapolis is paying $165,000 to settle a federal lawsuit filed by seven people who were arrested in 2006 after they dressed up as zombieswww.msnbc.msn.com/id/388244...om/toolbar
The seven said they were protesting what they called mindless consumerism. They had white powdered faces with dark makeup around their eyes and were walking in a stiff, lurching fashion.
They carried stereos in their backpacks. Because the bags had wires sticking out, police said they looked like simulated weapons of mass destruction.
The seven were jailed for two days but never charged.
Minneapolis City Attorney Susan L. Segal told the Star Tribune that even though she thinks police acted reasonably, the settlement approved Friday was in the city's best interest because juries can be unpredictable.
Wait For Me...
i adore Moby : Pale Horseswww.youtube.com/watch
quite lovely but i love "Wait For Me" even more...
"I'm going to ask you to look away
I love my hands but it hurts to pray
The life I have isn't what I'd seen
The sky's not blue and the field's not green (green)
Wait for me
(Wait for me e e e e e e e e e e e eeeeeeeeeeee)
I'm going to ask you to look away
My broken life will never stay
Tried too hard and I always lay
Days are gray and the nights are black
Wait for me
Wait for me
Wait
For me
Wait for me
Wait for me

This video is the overall winner of the Wait For Me Video Competition,
((i think it is really worth a look see ....some excellent work.... browsing the entries, it is amazing the talent that is out there...))
beating almost 500 entries to be named as one of 6 finalists on Genero.tv, then being chosen by Moby himself as the winner.
"'when we announced the 'wait for me' video competition i thought we'd have around 30 or 40 entries. Instead we received 500 entries and most of them are amazing. i'm stunned at how many good entries we received.
it was incredibly hard picking a winner in this competition, as there were dozens and dozens of great videos to choose from. i chose this winning video based on it's creativity, production value, concept, and humor. thanks to everyone who entered, and i'm truly sorry that there couldn't be more than one winner, as they were all really good." - Moby
From the director:
"The video clip portrays the story of a girl who decides to invite Moby into her life. She attempts to do so by using the "How to Summon Moby Guide for Dummies", putting herself through 10 bizarre and comical steps (each is a tribute to a different Moby video).
The video was created by film students from Tel Aviv University, Israel. We tried to capture the spirit of Moby and his iconic videoclips and hope we succeeded. The pre-production took a month (shooting script, costumes, auditions, art and location scouting). We shot over 2 fun and exhausting days!"
Papahanaumokuakea named World Heritage site
Hawaiian marine national monument the first U.S. location added to list in 15 yearspapahanaumokuakea.gov/welcome.html
HONOLULU — The Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument — a pristine haven for coral and other marine life, and a treasured site of ancient Hawaiian shrines — has been named a U.N. World Heritage site.
The area northwest of the main Hawaiian islands is the only U.S. location to make the list for both natural and cultural reasons, said monument spokesman Dan Dennison.
The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, made the decision at a meeting in Brazil, Dennison said.
The committee aims to identify sites "considered to be of outstanding value to humanity" and encourages their protection and preservation. There are currently about 890 sites around the world on the list.
The State Department said the monument is the first U.S. site to be added in 15 years. The Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park are among 20 U.S. sites already recognized.
Papahanaumokuakea consists of remote, mostly uninhabited atolls northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands and the waters surrounding them.
It's home to 69 percent of the coral reefs in U.S. territory. It also hosts 7,000 marine species, a quarter of which are found only in Hawaii. The area is off-limits to fishing, allowing for healthy and abundant populations of sharks, ulua or jackfish, and other marine life.
At Mokumanamana, a rocky outcrop in the monument about 460 miles northwest of Honolulu, ancient heiau, or shrines, line the top of a ridge running along the spine of the island.
There are similar shrines, with upright stones, in the main Hawaiian islands atop the highest peaks of Maui — Haleakala — and of the Big island — Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes.
But Mokumanamana has an unusually high concentration of heiau — at least 34 on just 46 acres.
Haunani Apoliona, chairwoman of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, said the listing will help preserve Papahanaumokuakea for future generations.
"We are very proud of this historic inscription," Apoliona said in a statement.
The monument is the nation's single largest conservation area and is nearly 100 times larger than Yosemite National Park.
President George W. Bush made the area a national monument in 2006.
Delegates from the 193 nations that signed the 1972 World Heritage Convention have been in Brazil for 10 days of meetings.
According to a website about the area, visiting is permitted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service only for scientific, educational and cultural purposes.

Lighting up the sky
This NASA image, released on June 21, shows the aurora australis, or the southern lights, as observed from the International Space Station on May 29. It is Truly beautiful and amazing don't ya think?did ya hear about nude bikers protesting BP? .

THOUSANDS of nude cyclists pedalled around some of the world's cities at the weekend to protest against car-clogged streets and demand greater respect.
With slogans such as "one car less" and "bio methanol" painted on their backs, the naked cyclists staged Spain's third annual Ciclonudista, or "Nudecycle" in Madrid, Barcelona and Pamplona.
The protest was part of worldwide naked bike events on Saturday across Europe, North America and South America. Mexico City and Ottawa also staged big turnouts.
"We feel naked when up against traffic because people don't see the bicycle as just another means of transport," said Madrid cyclist Ramon Linaza.
Towing cardboard cars with gaping jaws, protesters said the rapid rise of car ownership in Spain was turning city streets into ever more hostile and dangerous cycling territory.
Organisers said the bicycle was a healthy and efficient form of transport largely ignored by drivers and city planners.
Naked bike riders brought smiles to Britain on Saturday as World Naked Bike Ride day was marked in cities across Britain to celebrate sustainable transport and the human body.
The London event attracted about 1000 people. Organiser Nick Sayers said: "It brought smiles to Londoners' faces, which you don't often see."
In Brighton, 200 cyclists covered up for fear of being arrested by watchful police. Several got round the no-nudity rule by dressing creatively. Some men wore a sock — but not on their feet.
Mr Sayers said he was planning to make a Freedom of Information request to Sussex Police to find out why they ordered a cover-up.
"It was a celebration of cycling and the human body and a demonstration of the vulnerability of cyclists," he said.
He said the Government should take note of the environmental benefits of cycling because it was a form of transport that was human-powered.
Sussex police said no arrests had been made in Brighton for public nudity.
Several hundred cyclists turned out in Manchester, and about 70 in York.

A Horse's Prayer -
A Horse's Prayer -Feed me, water me and care for me.
And when my day's work is done,
provide me with shelter, a clean dry bed,
and a stall wide enough to lie down in comfort.
Talk to me.
Your voice often means as much as the reins.
Pet me sometimes, that I may
serve you the more gladly and learn to love you.
Do not jerk the reins
and do not whip me when going uphill.
Never strike, beat or kick me
when I do not understand what you mean,
but give me a chance to understand.
Watch me,
and if I fail to do your bidding,
see if something is wrong with my harness or feet.
Examine my teeth when I do not eat;
I may have an ulcerated tooth that is painful.
Do not tie my head in an unnatural position,
or take away my best defense against flies
by cutting off my tail.
Don't smoke in my barn
or leave me tied up overnight,
and perhaps burn to death
while you are sleeping in your bed.
And last, my master,
when my strength is gone
take my life in the kindest way,
and your God will reward you
hereafter.
