Belo Horizonte: about my city

Belo Horizonte (meaning Beautiful Horizon) is a relatively big city with around 2.300.000 habitants being 6th biggest in Brazil. It has been considered by United Nations' Population Crisis Committee as the metropolis with the best life quality in Latin America and number 45 within the 100 best cities in the world. Belo Horizonte's HDI is that of 0,839.

Most people here are Catholics and right-wing (not including me). We have a terrible inequality considering property: there are those who are very very rich and those who are very very poor, and most stand in between (including me) and don't know what to do about it. Most of the property belong to politics which makes it worse and more revolting. According to published statistics, 80% of Belo Horizonte's economy belongs to the tertiary sector.

Despite the good numbers, Belo Horizonte has a lot of crime and disputes 1st place as most violent Brazilian city. The homicide numbers are high and most of them are connected to drug traffic which is very structured and deeply rooted in the various poor communities (favelas) within the city. Deaths in transit are also very high.
