If you ever happen to be walking in the jungle in some part of Africa, and a lion should jump out at you, baring it's teeth and snarling, be not surprised if suddenly out of nowhere you hear twinkling sounds, loud singing and Eric Mbirastar Miller jumps out from behind a bush and goes head to head in a dance-off with the beast (lion has no chance).

Eric is a lion himself; proud, passionate, gentle and daring. His values are rooted in goodness and kindness, he practices a fierce independence which is inspiring, and his sense of style is righteous. One of his most admirable strengths is his willingness to take chances in life. He dances into the world with unabashed charm and grace -especially in music - be it jamming in the park with someone he just met, or singing gospel to thousands of people - in doing this he inspires others to do the same.

And yes, this guy can play music..His creativity is overflowing his mojo is rising and I am grateful to have such a friend and mbira buddy as Reggie...If you are even feeling un-inspired or tired, find Eric. He will have you beat boxin and making up tunes and then invite you in for a meal of kick-ass Zimbabwean food, cold beer and entertain you with creative musings on spirit, life and sillyness...

When I met Eric, it was on a street in the east village in new york. I was fed up with New York and Faith was just starting in on her yearly "you know dori, you'd really love Portland" speech when i said "screw it, I'm there." When I saw Eric after I got here, the first thing he did was give me a big beautiful smile and say "Welcome home!" I've gotten to know him a little better since then and what I can say now is that he's a truly magickal creature - he oozes soul from his pores, pulls some mighty dance moves, does a mean Mick Jagger and gets even the most shy of us to bust a vocal move here and there. You're a gift, Eric - thanks for sharing it with the world.

eric rocks my fucking block yo! (i don't usually say "yo"), but erick will make you do all kinds of funny things you never thought you would, like run around chanting babah-loo as he charms you with the majic marimba muzik flowing through him, permiating the room with glory. a truly enchanting individual. so, so so good.

Oh, Eric. There's much I could say, but to get to the essence of him, you must hear his music. He truely is a conduit of the divine. Songs and melodies pour out of him like fresh water from a spring... clear and beatiful and refreshing.

His laughter and energy are infectious... he taught me how to play. He introduced a lightness to my step, and an ease of laughter that was somewhat new to me. I have endless gatitude for all the experiences we've shared, and the ways he has influenced my life. Thank you.
