which is a florid and gilded showcase, a fantastic forum for such extravaganzas. We paid an enormous (for us) sum for the seventh row, fifteen seats right of center, our 38th wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. We've had two days of 111 degrees Fahrenheit, then a cooler 108 today, and tomorrow is expected to cool down to 103. This coming week will lower to the high 90's, so I'll look for the box of snow equipment in the garage.

I've watered all potted orchids, figs, mulberries, etc, heavily every other day; the garden has received intensive deep watering on the same basis. Despite this, the edges of some of the tomato and pepper plants (on their Western sides) actually dried and curled. We'v... read more
