About DJ Big Joe Daddy a.k.a. Joseph (Joey) Wisgirda
Joey Wisgirda has been playing trumpet since the age of 9. He was strictly a classical performer, studying theory and performance, large (wind ensemble and orchestra) and small (brass choir) at the New England Conservatory of Music extension division; and studying privately at Yale under Robert Nagle. He holds a B.S. in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a degree of Doctoral Candidacy in Physics from UCDavis. While at Davis, he switched modes and studied jazz theory and composition with John Tchicai, and performed throughout California with a diverse range of players as Joe Craven and Rick Montgomery (David Grisman Quintet), Fully Fullwood (Peter Tosh), Alton Ellis, Harvey Mandel, Rick Zamora ( Curtis Mayfield ), Hamsa Lila, Blayne Lyon, the West Coast Rhythm Section, the Free Association, Emerson Cardenas ( Salvadore Santana Group ), Punch the Clown, John Tchicai ( living Jazz legend ), Marty Holland ( Jerry Garcia Band ), DJ Dragonfly, and the Mutaytor. All throughout his band career Joey has always tried to expand upon his sonic palette, utilizing such "classic" effects as Wah pedals, and digital reverb and delay. For the past six years Joey has branched his musical efforts to the computer realm, utilizing Ableton Live, Reason, Recycle, Kyma, a host of other soft- and hardware synths, and tying it all together with a Morrison Digital Trumpet to morph from Jazz and Funk to Breakbeats and Dub. He now produces, DJs, and performs live solo and with other like-minded players, such as Crystal Awareness and turntablist DJ Pouhl (Paul Tahlier) in the live duo Brass Tables. Joey is also CEO of Awakening Productions, a live sound-reinforcement company. Awakening Productions boasts over 40,000 watts of Bag End speaker power backed by one of the best sounding front ends in the business, featuring Gamble EX-56 29 ( once on tour with Rush and Tom Petty). Joe has worked with and mixed live hundreds of artists, both national and international, from INXS to Thomas Matfuomo to Michael Franti to the Throat Singers of Tuva to the Jerry Garcia Band and many, many more
