about me
Participant in interactive theater - Renaissance Faire & Dickens Christmas Fair.

Currently the receptionist and hawker for Adorn Thy Hair, a.k.a. the Hair Braiding Booth. This year at Dickens I have also joined the Christmas Keepers.

One of the original Lace-A-Ladies from Dickens Fair 1983. An alumni of Drench-A-Wench / Soak-A-Bloke and a Tap Brother at Master Tapwell's Flatulent Dragon.

My husband Allen also works at the hair braiding booth and occasionally helps out with lacing some of the ladies into and out of their corsets or bodices - lucky guy!

I'm a native San Franciscan and die-hard Giants fan. I enjoy the symphony, opera & ballet. I like almost every type of music - classical, funk, jazz, salsa, rock, new age, big band, hip hop, blues, zydeco - but most of all, I love to dance.

I'm a left-handed person living in a right-handed world and to make life even more challenging - I'm dyslexic! Irony isn't lost on me either - I come from an accomplished musical family yet I'm the only one that doesn’t play an instrument or read music. To compensate I dabble as a writer - mostly short stories, poetry and erotica.

I don’t drink coffee or tea so if you offer me either - hot, cold or iced - I will politely decline. Some people say I have a warped sense of humor - they're probably right. Oh yeah, I have a thing for patent leather.

A day in the life of ...

I had a 10:00 a.m. dentist appointment yesterday that turned into 3+ hours of torture. I knew there was a chance that I would need an emergency root canal but until the first needle slowly pierced the upper left part of my mouth I was in denial. As the second needle entered to do its dirty deed I thought “well it could be worse, it could be to the roof of my mouth.” Then, as I began to relax and the back of my mouth started to go numb, out came the evil third needle and yes – you guessed i... read more

I am deeply saddened to hear of Luciano Pavarotti's death. I so loved his voice and admired his passion for music.

I can recall fond memories of watching PBS specials with my parents who also loved Pavarotti. It was a special time I shared with my father who believed Pavarotti was one of the few who could rival the Great Caruso.

I shall miss his beautiful voice but I know he is in a better place now. Sleep well oh Prince.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on my blog. So many things have happened in the last 6 months. I’m still battling some health issues but the prognosis is very good. Thanks to the support of my family and friends, and especially my dear hubby Allen, I am on the road to recovery.

I have a new job! After over 12 years of supporting the most challenging manager I’ve ever had, I’ve moved from client relations to strategy & research. It’s definitely a step up the corporate ladder and h... read more

Well the bad news is I'm sick. And the good news? Well, I'm down to 164 lbs. so I'm only 14 lbs. away from my medical goal! I've lost 6 lbs. since workshops began - not bad. I attribute it to diet, exercise, stress, sorrow & pain. I know the last three aren't good but hey you can't have everything!

Seriously though - I've been going through a difficult time lately and I want to thank all my fair friends for their friendship, support and understanding. You mean the world to me.

A ... read more

Greetings! This is my very first attempt at blogging. Not sure if anyone will be reading this but at least I can practice my writing skills.

A little background on me first – I’m a native San Franciscan who started working at the Dickens Fair in 1984. Back then, the fair was held at the Fox Theater in Oakland. I created the character Rosie O’Lay - a self-proclaimed half Irish / half Spanish young woman of questionable birth who worked the wide common of independence. Trying to make a ... read more
