A 14 month old baby was locked in and left in a daycare center alone

This news story makes me so glad that I decided to do that work at home mom thing until my little ones were all in school. It's been very hard, some days I've wanted to pull my hair out trying to juggle working and caregiving simultaneously. However, after reading this and due to my past horrid experiences with daycares I'm so glad that I went this route.

The center claims it was just a miscommunication that the little girl was left alone for two hours, strapped into a high chair. Who knows how long she screamed her head off, scared to death left all alone before she fell asleep from exhaustion. This could have easily turned tragic because kids should NEVER be left unattended in high chairs. No matter how well they are made there is still the possibility of them tipping over, or the child wriggling down through the safety straps and getting stuck and strangled. What if the place had caught fire? Just too scary.

As for it being a simple misunderstanding with no wrong doing on the part of the workers I say bullshit. I've worked for a long time providing daycare and that lapse was just ridiculous. Turns out the center has had lots of other violations too for using unsafe items for the children, not having caregivers properly trained in cpr, etc. Its terrible how little value our society places on the safety of our children. Not to say that all daycares are like that. But compared to other developed countries the United States daycare system is terrible. Underpaid and often undertrained workers, unsafe conditions, and sub-standard programs abound. Terrible!
