Re: Online Dietician colleges? (in DIY Health and Natural Medicine) there's also the possibility of going to physician assistant (PA) training - it's midlevel practice, very similar to nurse practitioner - in fact some porgrams, like one at UC Davis recently, are exactly the same coursework xcept that people who a... read more

Re: Online Dietician colleges? (in DIY Health and Natural Medicine) I don;t think Clayton is accredited, but Bastyr is, and they have a dietetics program as well as a naturopathy degree. I don;t know what you can do as distance learning with them, though.

my understanding is that to be a legally certified Regi... read more

mamas, papas and who's a good parent (inspired on this one by a bio of Dorothea Lange this time!) (blog entry) I'm, to paraphrase Mothering Magazine's mission statement, both a gentle supporter of the principles of "attachemnt parenting" thouh I think the concept has been hyped into a sort of cult where, especially over the Internet, women who will never ... read more

My Blog

I'm, to paraphrase Mothering Magazine's mission statement, both a gentle supporter of the principles of "attachemnt parenting" thouh I think the concept has been hyped into a sort of cult where, especially over the Internet, women who will never meet in person are too quick to tell others how to live like "true attachment parents"...and a strong believer that everyone needs to take a look at how mothers are held to an entirely different standard than fathers - you can read sociologist Arlie ... read more

this is a poem Marge Piercy wrote some twenty years ago. let's say that my own usual September crunch is on...I said somewhere I don;t kite my checking account, I'm a financial *hang-glider*...)

anyway, I've always liked this invocation, has a rather hoodoo-ish flavor for me.

does anyone read my notes here? well, check this out. and post a response or e-mail me if you have something to say...

if you are not already a marge Piercy fan...sometimes her writing is uneven but at it;s ... read more

it's Friday night and I really should observe something of an electronic Sabbath. beyond that, i need a little hint of renewal.

a bunch of minor stressors today.

I generally call myself a "freelance nonviolent social critic" or, in less formal company, a "freelance nonviolent troublemaker" because the term "pacifist" has these kind of drippy connotations despite its really inspiring history, including my late mentor and friend Dave Dellinger (author of a highly recommended book called ... read more

Last night, at a lightly-attended Candidates' Forum for the KPFA Local Station Board elections (I'm running as an independent), Annie, another candidate, an artist I know from another context altogether, stood up and gave a bit of a speech about relations among the Local Station board, which are notoriously contentious.

Annie said, "No one is born rude!" and I commented briefly, "You haven't raised children, have you?"

Oh hell, it's FUNNY. my friend, the late Jeannine Parvati, said in ... read more

has anyone read this where-we-are-nw about the communards of Packer Corners farm in Vermont in the very alte 60s to early 0s? I got it from the library. the author is a writer and art historian who now curates the Famous Long Ago archives at U Mass
Amherst.

here's something supplied by one of Fels' fellow commune alumni, a man named Tim who still lives nearby in rural Vermont, now an architect.

I found Tim's comments quite thought provoking. I have myself definitely been in group liv... read more
