Review of Anish Kapoor show: Royal Academy of Arts (blog entry) I thought this show was a rather mixed bag, some beautiful and engaging works and some rather dull pieces. Overall the show came across as pretentious and I don't get why people have been raving about it.

The better pieces were the ones that pr... read more

Goodbye to Patricia ( events » community ) Sadly the next Tuesday will be Patricia's last class with us before she heads back to Madrid permanently. So some of us are going out for a drink after the level 2 class on Tuesday to say goodbye to her. Everyone is welcome to join us - level 3s a... read more

Summer Opera on the big screen on 15 July - totally non-tribal ( events » arts ) This is something non-tribal. There's a free showing of The Barber of Seville at Trafalgar Square on 15 July, which Silvana, Sharon and I are interested in seeing, assuming the weather cooperates. And then we thought "the more the merrier!" So fo... read more

Rookery Nook (blog entry) Saw this at the Meiner Chocolate Factory theatre, excellent name for a theatre. But not the most comfortable seating, and absolutely stifling hot, even though it was a cool summer's night (good old British weather). This resulted in the charming ... read more

Six Characters in Search of an Author (blog entry) Saw this play last Saturday night at the Gielgurd Theatre, where I had seen Patrick Stewart in Macbeth last year. I brought the tickets under the firm conviction that this was a famous post-modern play, even though I couldn't actually remember any... read more

I thought this show was a rather mixed bag, some beautiful and engaging works and some rather dull pieces. Overall the show came across as pretentious and I don't get why people have been raving about it.

The better pieces were the ones that properly filled the space they were in, for example The Tall Tree and the Eye outside the exhibition itself in the Courtyard, which was a welded together set of steel balls polished to mirrors. This worked well with the symmetry of the courtyard, so I... read more

Saw this at the Meiner Chocolate Factory theatre, excellent name for a theatre. But not the most comfortable seating, and absolutely stifling hot, even though it was a cool summer's night (good old British weather). This resulted in the charming view of the hero of the play getting sweatier and sweatier during the performance. Actually, I don't know how the other actors remained looking cool, given that they were often wearing heavy clothing.
The play was a farce, even to the detail of be... read more

Saw this play last Saturday night at the Gielgurd Theatre, where I had seen Patrick Stewart in Macbeth last year. I brought the tickets under the firm conviction that this was a famous post-modern play, even though I couldn't actually remember any details, but luckily it turned out I was right. The set up of the play is, briefly, that a bunch of people are sitting around rehearsing a play, when the six characters appear, with a problem. They have been abandoned, unfinished, by their author, a... read more

Basically the entire 20th century of art in about three artists. Impressionists, painting, photorealism, found art, sculpture, film, ultra-modern Swedish-style chess set designs, photography, installation art, abstract. Woooossshhh! Picasso-level creativity. Only thing lacking was Picasso's cubism. Unless you count The Nude D... read more
