What Friends Say About Me

May 6, 2004
I have known Malcolm for over a decade, however I have discovered recently that there is much more for me to learn about him and love.

BTW, he gives the best darned spankings in the world. This is coming form someone who identifies as a top most of the time.{:o)
Hugs!

A new over the counter cure for serious social anxiety.

The side effects seem to be a bit numerous, and dangerous.

Well, Malcolm arrived in Joplin fine yesterday evening around 8pm their time. I don't know if it' s Central time or what... but it's two hours difference from the West Coast.

He got checked into his hotel room, moved everything inside to ready for a good nights sleep before starting the new job today.

I am sure he will post soon-ish... There's just tons of things I am sure he is distracted by. But he DOES have high speed access at the hotel.

Just wanted everyone to know he arrived safely, and ask for everyones well wishes for his first day.

=)

Got into Boise, ID last night around 11:45pm (ID time) and back onto the road this morning around 7:30am.

Going to do Boise, ID to Denver, CO today. Should be right around a 12 hour trip, so should be able to lay in for a good nights rest early tonight. Then tomorrow, the last leg from Denver, CO to Joplin, MO... Also about a 12 hour trip.

Lets all hope for a nice boring uneventful trip now. =)

Left Vancouver, WA for Joplin, MO today.

Originally the plan was to leave at 4 or 5 in the morning.

Scrapped that and planned for 10am.

Actually left the state of Washington around 2:30pm.

Hoping to stop somewhere around Boise, ID tonight.

Not too late though, because the plan is to get back on the road early early tomorrow morning.

Have got to make Joplin, MO no later than Tuesday.

Will update again after I hear back from Malcolm.

When I took a contract in Bemuda 2 years ago, I learned a ton of things about working travel, and cost of living indexes, but one of the most important things I got out of the experience is my friend Norm.

I got a letter from him today that got me writing and writing and writing, and it looked like a good way to re-kick start this thing and catch everyone up on what we've been doing.

Starting with H. and the MissAdventure Monkey (MM).

H is putting in some great work with Pre-Paid Legal (AndersonPPL.com), she's much better at talking with people than I am, so I'm trying to learn a lot from her. We're actually starting to treat the business as a business. (I realized a few weeks ago that I've run my programming career as a business, which has resulted in much better money, but has made it MUCH harder for me to try to do any other business on the side, something about trying to ride two horses.)

MM is just growing up SO fast. She turns 3 in December, is just about completely potty trained and is using full sentences. She loves going to day care (pronounced "school"), and is turning into quite the princess. How H and I turned out a princess, we will never know, but she's just amazing.

On to me

All of the last position's have fallen through. There have been 3 that I really wanted, 1 just stopped returning my recruiters calls, 1 team that really wanted me, got over ruled by their corporate HR from 1000 miles due to my contracting background, and one I lost out to a more qualified project manager.

In theory I've got a guaranteed job starting in 2 weeks, and I'm hoping to find another position before that. I've got one awesome job that is just down the street from me, and another one about 2000 miles away, in Joplin Missouri. I'd love to stay here, but the Joplin job has got a small ton of benefits to it, first being that the real estate prices are insanely low. Add in that it's in the heartlands, which means that I'm less than 5 hours of air travel from just about anywhere in the US or Canada (with the exception of Alaska or Hawaii)

Anyway, I'm trying to find full time positions, which seem to have a longer lead time for interviews.

Long story short, we're still optimistic and hopeful, and there are about 7 different contract jobs that I'm starting to look at.

Does it sound like I'm kind of bouncing off the walls? It feels like it to me.
