To dance is to live, and to live without dance is to live without expression...
Nestled in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, I share my life with my wonderfully awesome husband, two dogs (a malamute/wolf mix and a border collie mix), and an occasional fat guinea pig who will grace us with his presence only when the weather is to his temperate liking. ;-) Really, Mr. Piggle Pants (as he is affectionately known), is a wonderful fellow; he just does not approve of the way we heat our house in the winter! Our malamute, however, begs to differ: he wishes we kept the house just a tad bit colder for him. And then there is Ceilidh, our border collie mix who seems to have a few important screws missing upstairs. Though she is loved tremendously! You never quite know what she will do, or is up to for that matter, as she is a very sly little thing. 2/3 of our animals are rescues from the pound (Ceilidh only had a couple of days left!) and Mr. Piggle Pants came from a pet shop. He was just too cute to leave in the store! We keep very busy here at our home, and love to spend time outdoors hiking the local mountains. In 2005 I co-founded an original "Celtic Fusion" dance troupe entitled, The Celtic Gypsies, and we have enjoyed numerous performances at Ren Faires and beyond from Texas to New Hampshire. When I am not consumed with every day life in general and the dance troupe, I also run my own Renaissance and Belly Dance garb company, www.strikedaekins.com.

After years of saying "one of these days, I'm going to learn to knit..." I finally took it up over the fall..though I didn't get very far with my first attempt coming back from Texas. The project (a basic scarf) was the bane of my knitting existence. Evil little thing!

While TRF (Texas Ren Fest) was immensely fun, it is so nice to be home after more than two months on the road, and just in time for Christmas, too.

The other day Eddie and I were trying to decide what to get each other for Christmas this year, and I confessed that I have been seriously considering adopting a second dog for a long time now and have been doing a few searches online. Well, it just so happened that last week Eddie ended up near the animal shelter and came home to tell me that th... read more
While browsing the latest from YouTube, I came across these two clips of me (and my husband with the tamborine...*g*) performing with E-Muzeki at TRF a few weeks ago.

From the first moment we walked up and saw their shows, we were hooked on their sound! We were all sad to see them on their way the weekend of Sept. 23, and it seems strange to not hear their music at Faire. Then we got a call from Jenny the day after they left and asked Eddie and I to join them at the Texas Ren Fest... read more
Been feeling a little...well...wolfish here the last couple of days. Is it the moon? Last night to try and calm down (but it didn't work) I went for a skate and ended up going about 12 miles out without stopping and with only two small swigs of water. It was sooooo enjoyable, as by the time I left my house it was almost dark and pouring rain and sleet and the temperature freezing, but to me it was perfect. It's something that has been pulling on me for a while now, and I just had to go. Envel...
