Home?
Tue, August 5, 2008 - 10:37 AMLast wednesday, I woke up, was doing laundry, Herbert walked in and said: "What is going on here?"
me: "I'm doing laundry"
Herb: "You be fired." (I don't work for him, I work for Heidi, and he doesn't have the authority to fire me)
me: "what? Ok. Why did you tell lies about me to Heidi?" (long story)
Herb: no words, just flipped me off as he walked away
me: "FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE!!!"
Heidi (from the porch): "Jessica, remember, he's part owner!"
damage was done. I packed, I called a cab, and I went to the airport. I ran into the chief of the borough police, he was bummed that I was leaving so soon, I told him why, and he said "Hmmm, I wonder if Herbert has a work visa." Gotta love the chief.
Anyway, I was planning on splitting on saturday anyway, so I ended up with three days to kill in Anchorage. Turns out that 3 days in the anchorage motel 6 cost me $470. Yowza. But I took a cruise to a glacier, I rented a bike and rode around the beautiful bike trails of anchorage. I visited almost every local brewery in town, ate lots of halibut, drank lots of good beer, and spent a shit ton of money. Oh, and I slept on a large bed and took lovely showers with BOTH hot water and good pressure. Amazing. I rode the bus thru the u of alaska campus, very pretty, very shiny and new (hmmm, grad school?).
Okay, though, overall? I'm sooo glad I went up this summer, and I know it's only a matter of time before I move up there. I LOVE the super super small town feel of the borough, of being in the bush, of being so far away from crap like crackheads and road rage and all the other lame things of civilization. If only my cell phone worked up there. They say they may get service next year.
Anyway, I've just got to finish out my two semesters of school and graduate, even though my King Salmon dreams may make working in my field impossible. Alas...
