Small pleasures and the Paris Night

   Sat, November 26, 2011 - 12:42 PM
This city of lights still offers up the subtle small acts of wonder and surprise. Wandering down the arcades near the Louvre with a close friend, her daughter and Paddles the stuffed animal. Winter's chill rides the air, but thankfully no snow.Today, with technology beckoning us to work non-stop, with phones ringing in the metro and people talking about nothing, with the the global malaise that permeates our dreams; that lack of hopefulness that incessant disappointment in our world leaders brings, the want and desire for things beyond what money can buy, but not knowing exactly what will scratch that itch- well, to make sense out of life, and indulge in the best this city unfolds: it's a trip to Angelina's for real hot chocolate , creamy folds of heaven in a cup with Chantilly. angel creme, then a spin on the Ferris wheel overlooking the Eiffel Tower, Christmas lights crisp on the Champs, children stinging with anticipation- strings of crystal lights over Paris, high up and over, then down and around- the shivers of heaven touching shoulders, and it is the small pleasures that give a life quality and fineness of spirit. Chocolate and spinning over Paris..
