My Blog

Last weekend I inherited a cat - not because I wanted one. But because my next door neighbor, who is my good friend, moved away and abandoned hers. She's a sweetheart of a cat, except when she decides to do odd cat things. I am decidedly torn, because a large part of me wants to keep her, and then the rational side of me says I can't. You see, I'm moving by August - out of town. I might have to get a roommate. I might have to get a room in someone else's place... I don't know what my l... read more

Yesterday I bought my first carbon credit. It was small, but it made me want to buy many more - I bought ten trees for the Nature Conservancy reforestation effort in the Atlantic Amazon rainforest. There is only currently 7% of the original forest standing and the nature conservancy is trying to plant a billion native trees there and have the local people raise them and plant them. (www.plantabillion.org) I think I will give these out as Christmas presents instead of the typical American ... read more

This weekend started like any other. Friday was a bit crazy, and I spoke to Will that night. He had gone up to the mountains to draw that day, and about 1 o'clock there was a head-on collision between two motorcycles about a mile down the road from where he was drawing. He told me about it with the same regret that we always speak of the weekend accidents. There are dozens. Every day, several a day. He said this one was especially bad and he saw the helicopter go away with the injured, ... read more

So its fucking tax day again... This year its not so much of a personal affront to my livelihood, but I started thinking about where all this money is going today. Well, part of my taxes (which is about a quarter of my income! on just the income tax part.) is going to fund corporate welfare - like ExxonMobil. Even though I don't own a car and don't drive myself anymore, I'm still paying for their sorry asses. I'm sure a good part of it is funding Blackwater and Halliburton, though I was n... read more

I've done seven applications in three years for architecture school - and hopefully this one right now is the last of them. I'm sitting here at my work computer and I've got the notes all over my desk. Notes for work, notes for the new 'Statement of Purpose', notes on what to bring home and what I want to find. Notes to jog my mind after hours spent in front of this computer. They want a one page statement on my emotional response to light, space, form, texture, landscape, nature, color, ... read more

My Recent Activity

Re: False Perception in Auto -vs- Mass Transit Arguments (in Cars Suck) Truly. However, in LA, I've seen and been on buses that speed, and some that run lights. I've also been on one (mind you, only one in about 5 years of taking them here) that did get into an accident from running the yellow that turned red and hi... read more

Re: The high gas price fantasy (in Cars Suck) Yeah, my new coworker came in today with a parking ticket from expired tags on her car. She then started calculating how much its going to cost to fix it (and possibly time off to take care of it at the DMV), and looked at me and said, "You are l... read more

Re: Police Break 60 Year Old Homeless Woman's Arm (in *~The Cool Earth Party~*) That's totally uncalled for and ridiculous. The officer should face some kind of punishment for that kind of behavior.

Good for the community... (in A New Earth BY Eckhart Tolle) "If we could think locally, we would take far better care of things than we do now. The right local questions and answers will be the right global ones. The Amish question "What will this do to our community?" tends toward the right answer for t... read more
