The Ginger Ninjas Pedal Powered Music Stage at Harmony

In 2007, the Ginger Ninjas became the first band in the history of rock and roll to tour by bicycle, unsupported by automobile. On a 5000 mile odyssey from their home in Northern California to the pyramids of Southern Mexico, they promoted transportation cycling while also exploring the frontiers of pedal-generated electricity, using their own bikes to power a hyper-efficient sound system. The audience took turns getting on stage to pedal the bikes to make the sound, taking crowd participation to a new level. Originally conceived as a one-time adventure/statement/experiment, the band became addicted to low-impact touring, and now does so exclusively. The Ginger Ninjas' mobile human-power stage is the first of its kind in history. Coupling super efficient digital amplifiers, lightweight components, and generators attached to working bicycles (as opposed to purpose-built stationary bikes), the system allows a band to play off-grid anywhere, wall outlet or no, and to also carry the system to a gig on the same bicycles (Xtracycle sport utility bicycles). This enables a new kind of completely self-sufficient bicycle touring, sans automobile support. On the band's most recent tour, the system and touring style enabled them to avoid generating close to 60,000 pounds of CO2, or 95% of what a similar sized band creates in a similar tour. The band's lead vocalists Eco Lopez and Kipchoge Spencer met on a piano bench. They played a 30 minute song together, a transcendent gospel soul thing that made them both tremble. The Ginger Ninjas became their musical love story, as written on the back of a magic envelope. Listen to either alone and you hear a fully formed solo artist. But together, they blend as only those who've found their muse can, spacially, lyrically, and sonically, creating something bigger than its parts. With their jazz-trained band, or as a duo, they skip through genres, from folk punk to folk funk to Latin ballads, simple ska, and fantasy American bluegrass, he with the grabby rhythms and brainy rhymes, she with the clean melodies (in Spanish, English, and French), a Russian hat, and heart melting voice. They call their style "mind shaking love groove folk funk roots explosive international mountain music for a pleasant revolution." The band will be appearing at the Harmony Festival Eco Village in Santa Rosa, 11:30 Saturday June 7 and 4:30 Sunday June 8, and will be providing human power for the festival's eco-village stage throughout the weekend. The Solar Living Institute will also be providing Solar Power for the speakers on the stage. And the Eco Village is sponsored by Clear Edge Power + The Solar Living Institute, DPI, Next Generation, Rawfood Central in Sebastopol, California Flowforms. Many raw food leaders such as Victoria Boutenkto, Matt Amsden, Janabai Amsden, Cherie Soria, Greg Cipes, Bruce Horowitz, Rainbeau Mars will also be speaking at Harmony's alternatively powered stage. Cultural Alchemistry

The time is now for community activation of a joyful and grand kind. The Cultural Alchemistry of this weekend at the first Evolution Festival among Singing Bear, Cipes, myself and others involved felt very ‘forward moving’ for the concious community activation underway. We have a resonance which is helping people take the high road into defining our individual roles in upcoming times as leaders of the new paradigm, actualizing our true Service as Love and Joy. The Raw Foods Presence at the event was robust ~ high vibe food for superheroes! We are evolving… Saturday the 5th, the first Evolution Festival took place in Fairfax, California. My friend Singing Bear of Aumnibus was the lead producer. He did a phenomenal job bringing community together, along with Dean, Emrys, Matthew Edwards of Circle Center and others in the community. I MC’ed the night show, and it felt great to hold space for three amazing bands and also to speak with an enthusiastic crowd about Visionary Stewardship and activating our super hero powers to new levels of community interaction and global service. We had a blast! Blane Lyon and Hamsa created outstanding musical soundscapes as did Greg Cipes of Cipes and the People. Cipes and The People ( myspace.com/cipesandthepeople ) drove up for the night show. They totally rocked the house once again, just like they did at the Raw Lifestyle Film Festival. Cipes is raw foods enthusiast, actor, commuity activator, and musician whom I had met at the Raw Lifestyle Film Festival. He is truly inspirational in helping us all wake up and remember who we are and why we are here. Cipes of Cipes & The People There is a Cultural Alchemistry with the vision-work-energy of Singing Bear, Cipes and me that feels like a new wave of cohesive resonace which has the capacity to touch so many people to the core, to help us all jump into our Highest Expression of Service with Joy so we can collectively 'shift it' into high gear for transformation on planet earth. We all ‘get it’ about activating our ability to create new realities of our own choosing, such as we’ve been doing in Anchor The Dream. I’m totally stoked, because Cipes & The People will be playing at the Harmony Festival Community Stage and Eco Village Stage, which I’m managing. Cipes and Singing Bear and I will be co-hosting the Eco Village Stage at Harmony. It’s going to be an incredibly powerful weekend, June 6-8 in Santa Rosa. I do have some room for volunteers, as well as a few spots left for vendors and educational exhibits in the Eco Village. Many raw foods vendors were at the show, including Steve of Sacred Heart Chocolates, Adam of Gold Rush (his noni gold is off the hook!!) and Moon made delicious raw vegan meals. One of the threads that arose in the show is the idea of a Gift Economy. Many of us are thinking about this now and discovering ways we can bring the Gift Economy in pockets into the culture through events and online interchanges. More will be revealed soon… Much love!! Aloha! I'm excited to be taking part in this year's Raw Lifestyle Film Festival in LA which is right around the corner. I'll be presenting one of the awards, and also giving a brief talk on Visionary Stewardship and Living Permaculture. Check it out! My work at the Ohm Foundation Retreat facilitating Visionary Stewardship was a joy and a pleasure on Maui, with raw vegan chef Superstar Elaina Love and Ohm Foundation founder Mikael King. Then I assistant produced The Mystic Garden Party in Maui and on the Big Island, and went on to give Visionary Stewardship Trainings & be a student at The Living Mandala Aloha Aina Holistic Permaculture Design Certificate Course. I have now received my Certificate, and I am very excited to be returning to Richmond, Virginia in a couple weeks! I am looking forward to teaching Permaculture Basics at Sylvia Clute's house on Saturday, March 8. We'll have a chance to do some hands-on, and there will be an open raw vegan potluck at her house that evening. In Maui this weekend, I'll be giving a talk at Namaste in Paia on Raw Permaculture at 11:00 am, followed by the option to do some hands-on work and have a raw vegan prep class. I have also been invited to present Visionary Stewardship and Permaculture Basics at the Raw Spirit Festival in Sedona, September 12-14. Aloha! What an exciting winter I've been experiencing in Hawaii. The many events coalescing are bearing fruit in the form of a Permaculture, Living Foods & Visionary Stewardship tour, where I'll be offering classes, workshops, talks and trainings on these complementary topics around the country in 2008. I received my Permaculture Design Certificate from the Aloha Aina Holistic Permaculture Design Certification Course on the Big Island. Sustainable MBA? Wow, That’s Cool!

Celebrating Sustainable MBA Programs! The weather is clear, and all of us in the car heading to Shasta are aligned with our common notion that we need to build community and leverage our collective skills to move into a new paradigm of collaboration beyond competition to create solutions to the current global challenges we face, ecologically, socially, economically, mentally and emotionally. In the car with me is Brett, a student at Presidiomba.org, an accredited University which offers an MBA in Sustainable Business.Brett. Also in the car is Jay Ma of Living Mandala, a world server with a focus on permaculture. We are driving North from the Bay Area to Shasta for a Solstice weekend. As we drive and talk, I am also working on the Raw Spirit Festival (www.rawspirit.com) and the Living Mandala Aloha 'Aina Permaculture Design Certification Course featuring Raw Vegan Meals (www.livingmandala.com). This Design Certification Course is a solution-based foundational event with the intention of assisting in the development of conscious eco-villages globally by assisting people in hands-on learning and application of permaculture principles. While we drive nearing sunset, our modern echnology is supporting me and at my disposal: the computer is plugged into the power adapter/lighter input of the car, and I have a roaming wireless connection which allows me to write and work from this mobile eco-concsious chariot. Brett shares with me how he was drawn to attend Presidio in San Francisco because he is passionate about sustainability, and has always wanted to be able to apply it to his life, and has done so in every way, except in the area of his paid work in the world. There has of course been a divide between the people with resources and the people who have solutions to these challenges, and creating bridges between the worlds of money, resources and visions is the master key to spinning the wheel of manifestation for the many visionary and ecological projects now seeking funding and activation. As I mention the prophecy of The Eagle and the Condor as a visionary template which supports these intentions, Brett brings out his Native American flute and tells me an elder from the Incan tradition had told him of this prophecy as well. The prophecy states that at a certain time, the people of Vision would come together with the people of means and resources to create a bridge and a ceremony of collective solutions which help humanity collectively birth the new ways of being leading to an age of harmony and light. He says, "Presidio is filled with people who are passionate about their work, and actively disscovering their calling for the work we are meant to bring to the world. People who are trying to align their values with their profession are attracted to this place. Music is the core of the awakening consciousness movement. If it's true we have the power of creation in us as the seed of who we are then we ought to use it. If we are who we are beginning to realize we are, co-creators of all experience, then it's time for us to step up and become Visionary Stewards. Not only is it time it is THE MOST SATISFYING THING we can ever do. If we look around at happenings in the world and feel powerless, it's time to reach out and ask for the reminder of who we are and what we are capable of doing. We can do this, together. We can shift the planetary consciousness. We can awaken every bit of compassion in our being and bring in mercy-grace-healing-love-heart opening affirmations of the Joy of Life countering and encountering all experience with wisdom and ... an attitude of profound gratitude. We can sing our way home, om, together. If music is the heart of the movement, and I believe it is, then we have the capactity, the ability, the inspiration to NOW leverage our powers of creation to collectively co-create the most profound musical experiences of awakening and MOVE our bodies to the rhythms of the very life which sustains us, which we are. Living Live in Sedona at Cafe Raw Bliss

August 20, 2007 I'm back in Sedona again at Cafe Raw Bliss! Home of Sedona Chocolate Superfoods, the cafe has wireless internet AND totally rawsome delicious live vegan cuisine! I will be seen here mucho over the next couple months working toward the culmination of the many details and orchestrations of The Raw Spirit Festival. My new home is nestled between two mountains and we will be growing food, sprouting, and going "Anastasia Style" with our practices. I hope you are all feeling the inner surges of wellness and confirmation I am these days. I have finally thank the Universe started exercising fairly regularly again. I'm enjoying running especially. I love sprinting and look forward to my lungs catching up with my desires to run. Raw foodism and recalibrating our physical systems is a journey, an adventure! I am so happy to be 100% raw again. For me, it's the way to go. I am working towards eating more of my nourishment directly from nature itself, ie, wild plant foods and stuff from my own garden. I think it will be a fun experiment to spend at least a certain amount of time intending that all my food needs come to me directly from nature, the garden or someone offering me the plant foods. The simpler the diet, the more the energy and life force can flow through us. I feel ready finally to take this experiment of wild foods and garden foods and sprouting to the next level. Last year when I tried to go all green, I rebelled and began eating some cooked vegan foods again. It was as if my system was saying, "oooo you may THINK you're going all green, but we've got news for you, baby!!" Now, however, a year later, I can feel it has sunk into my psyche a bit more... we are... I am... growing, changing, morphing all the time. I am allowing the unfolding of my beautiful Inner Nature to take place gradually without pushing. When I have pushed in the past, it usually backfires. Now, I feel a new surge of allowing coming on. I will keep you posted as to its manifestations! In the meantime, feel free to imagine me eating more from the garden, from the land, from plant food gifts given freely and exchanged. Many blissings to you! May we all discover the PEACE we are. May all our old hurts of the heart dissolve back into Supreme Light which heals the world once and for all. May we all experience TRUE LOVE. May we all feel our Oneness with Nature, the Divine, ourselves within and one another. May we experience the Reality of Heaven on Earth. Aho! Love, Laura

Hey Everybody! I'm back at the Granite Dells this weekend. I just wanted you to see how beautiful it is. It's the monsoon season now so everything is very green. I'm just settling in for a weekend of fun creating for the Raw Spirit Fest! Then going to my new canyon home in Sedona soonish. My dear friend Shafiya returned into my life today, with Divine Wisdom indeed. Stumbling over our own feet are we, she reminds me... if we are wise, we are stumbling over our own feet, with Divine Joy brought forth from surrender to all the GOOD which is naturally ours... GOD/LOVE/LIFE ITSELF is conspiring to trick us, despite our antics and tactics to hold back and be or experience 'other than' our most perfect (as we are!) expressions of love... ...the Divine Within knows better, and even so, even now, is conspiring to bring us ALL GOOD, more than we can even imagine! I feel a slight tightness in my shoulders softening a bit as I inner-grasp this serendipitous, rawkus, absolute possibility that the Divine has more in store for me than even I have had for myself... (and I do love my spiritual maturity, which instigates an uninhibited ability to laugh fully and heartily at/with myself, with glee and appreciation for humanness and divineness all woven into adorable little 'me...') Shafiya quoted Rumi for me today: "What is the difference Between your experience of Existence And that of a Saint? The saint knows That the spiritual path Is a sublime chess game with God And that the Beloved Has just made such a Fantastic Move That the saint is now continually Tripping over joy And bursting out in Laughter And saying, 'I surrender!' Whereas my dear, I am afraid you still think You have a thousand serious moves." ...and so... it is TRUE! I am so grateful to be Check-Mated by True Love Itself! By Source's Inner Instigating Wisdom and Desire for Good for me... I am now integrating and re-orienting within my being the truth of the notion of ALLOWING our/my good as espoused by Abraham and others, with this expanded idea of actually SURRENDERING TO the complete overflowing of the good which is already ours/mine into our/my lives... more than allowing... into... surrendering... to love Itself! and all It's love for us, all It's goodness, manifest, in our lives and on our planet, NOW! Happy Independence Day Surrendered are We to the Inner Freedom of Divine Love's Trickery toward the manifestation of our Perfect Good! I wonder: What would happen If the leaves of the Tree Were to argue and fight? How silly How strange Terribly odd Totally Illogical Surely, the Leaves, being of The Tree, Contain It’s Wisdom And know better. Tree, Sustaining Mother, Thank You For creating me Your Leaf May I receive the Sun’s Light and translate it into Nourishment which sustains You, Tree, You, Mother, and all Your leaves May I always remember as I share sunlight in my leaf-form You will one day beckon me to fall from You Relinquishing this form back to the Mother’s Embrace That The Tree may live on. Perhaps, Maybe, The Wisdom contained in this poem Is food for humans, too.
