I was born in New York City but grew up in Ireland, staying there from ages 1 to 14. Returned to New York City, I've only lived elsewhere for half a year - Logan, UT - before feeling the need to return to NYC.

I work for a newspaper doing Unix system administration and am completing a couple of degrees as time allows in philosophy and management of computer and information systems; my goal is to teach philosophy after retiring from computer-related activities some time in the next twenty to thirty years.

Computers are my hobby and livelihood; reading of all sorts fills my commute time and non-computer-related downtime at home. I enjoy a wide variety of music and would love to be able to play an instrument; after various attempts, though, I'm left with singing, though I can't say that it's any good.

Having recently tossed the cable box to the curb, I'm in a strange place of liking very specific shows (many British ones that I grew up with) and movies but being largely unable to watch them (even with cable, so no great loss I suppose). Luckily, most series are available on DVD, so I won't be getting rid of those in the near future.
